I will admit that I never expected the Pirates to have the kind of season that they have had.  I have been a long time Mathews fan, but never really liked the slot-T offense.  It simply allows other teams to load up in the box and stuff the run....but this team is something special.  This team simply doesnt care how many you put in the box, they just get it done.  Your starting quarterback plays both ways and has managed to stay healthy through a tough season in 20-4A, as have most of the players on the team.

This team has a motor like I have never seen.  Undersized against most every opponent and they just dont seem to care how big you are, they are gonna whip you.  I have never been prouder of a Pirate team.  I predicted an average season for the Pirates but I am so glad that I was wrong.  I graduated from Vidor many years ago and I have always supported my Pirates, I just never expected this team to play the way they have.  From Coach Mathews to all of the coaches on staff, to the players who go out and get it done, thank you.  Well done.  Keep on working, keep on winning.  You make us so proud.

Even if they hadn't won a single game, we'd still be proud of them.

I think every little boy in Vidor grows up wanting to play football for the Pirates (even my son and he only lived there 2 years).  They all believe they are going to be "different" than the past and win.  These boys are exceeding everyone's expectations and are still going strong.  Someone said these are good memories for them.  These are good memories for the entire city and for anyone who ever graduated from Vidor High School.

My dad was a senior in 1964.  He is so proud of this team, he's had a smile on his face for weeks.

I agree invictus....I endured the Interstate 10, Vidor 0 jokes and the 0-44 losing streak we went through. Couple that with the "racist" brand we've had to carry and it makes these kids all that more special. Our community has always centered around the school and that football team and we fill the stands even when we can only win one game.

First off this is not the time for any negative comments this is the 2nd best team in Vidor history I believe and they deserve all the praise they can get. I love to see Vidor doing so well the town needs this. Vidor has shown a unwavering loyalty to coach Matthews and his style of football but more importantly his morals and ethics. I believe Vidor fans are as good a they come when supporting there kids and have as much pride for there school as any. So ride this proud football team all the way and this PNG Indian will be sitting with you this next weekend watching and cheering with you.
Lets Get Em PIRATES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually it was 12-0-1.  Went 10-0 in regular season, then 2-0-1 in post-season.  One regular season game is being left out, I'd have to get my scrapbook out of mothballs to see which one.

I didnt mean to imply that I wasnt proud of the Pirates before this season.  I actually go to practices sometimes and I am always impressed when I speak to the players at how mature and respectful they are.  That comes from good parents and coaches and teachers through the years that expect greatness from these young men.  The Pirate program under Mathews has been one of honesty and integrity, from the man at the top, to all the coaches, players, and support staff.  I am proud to call Jeff Mathews my friend because I know how much he truly cares for his players and wants only the best for them.  But, on the field, this team is something very special.

I also want to thank all of those not from Vidor who post on these pages in support and also those who come out and watch our kids play and cheer us on.  Maybe now people will finally realize that we arent just a bunch of racial rednecks, but actually good people who radically support our teams on the court or field.

    • I don’t benefit from it, that’s not my area.  But the average cost to imprison someone is around $15k per year (on average in the US) and capital cases cost somewhere between $1.5-$3M with over half being overturned or reduced to life in prison anyway.  These numbers may be inflated since the last report I read but I’m sure it would be on both sides and higher on the DP side if anything. So what’s the point?  We feel better because we got to return the favor on someone (hopefully) who committed a heinous crime?  And I don’t know I can say we have “complicated” it. Which appeal should we cut out?  Our justice system has a pecking order and we have higher courts for a reason. When we are about to impose the ultimate judgment, should we cut steps that other cases have to save a buck?  Or do we not pay for an indigent person’s experts at the trial court level because it’s too expensive? Or do we just lock them up and throw away the key (unless we later find out they weren’t actually guilty, in which case we have a key and a life we haven’t unjustly ended) and save a ton of money?  Seems to me to be an easy and obvious solution but I’m more of a pragmatist.
    • 1 thing for certain. Coach Earned 3 more years to figure it out lol
    • @CIS_org National Security Senior Fellow @BensmanTodd tells Steve Bannon how the U.S. State Department and USAID have been sending American taxpayer funds to religious nonprofits to facilitate mass immigration to our southern border. Bensman says 248 nonprofits are participating in the United Nations’ 2024 agenda to distribute $1.6 billion in cash, transportation, food, and shelter to U.S.-bound immigrants across Mexico and Latin America.
