texas2step4u Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 I will admit that I never expected the Pirates to have the kind of season that they have had. I have been a long time Mathews fan, but never really liked the slot-T offense. It simply allows other teams to load up in the box and stuff the run....but this team is something special. This team simply doesnt care how many you put in the box, they just get it done. Your starting quarterback plays both ways and has managed to stay healthy through a tough season in 20-4A, as have most of the players on the team. This team has a motor like I have never seen. Undersized against most every opponent and they just dont seem to care how big you are, they are gonna whip you. I have never been prouder of a Pirate team. I predicted an average season for the Pirates but I am so glad that I was wrong. I graduated from Vidor many years ago and I have always supported my Pirates, I just never expected this team to play the way they have. From Coach Mathews to all of the coaches on staff, to the players who go out and get it done, thank you. Well done. Keep on working, keep on winning. You make us so proud.
invictus Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Even if they hadn't won a single game, we'd still be proud of them. I think every little boy in Vidor grows up wanting to play football for the Pirates (even my son and he only lived there 2 years). They all believe they are going to be "different" than the past and win. These boys are exceeding everyone's expectations and are still going strong. Someone said these are good memories for them. These are good memories for the entire city and for anyone who ever graduated from Vidor High School. My dad was a senior in 1964. He is so proud of this team, he's had a smile on his face for weeks.
ECFAN#1 Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Go get'em Pirates. You have alot of people in SouthEast Texas pulling for Ya!!!

Couple that with the "racist" brand we've had to carry and it makes these kids all that more special. Our community has always centered around the school and that football team and we fill the stands even when we can only win one game.
BWOOD Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 May I remind everyone. In the pre season we were picked to finish next to last in district.

prepballfan Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 1964 Vidor Pirates played in the Semi-Finals and tied the game and lost on penetrations.

football04 Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Crossing the opponents 20 yd line was considered 1 penetration, that's how they settled ties back in the day

texas2step4u Posted November 19, 2011 Author Report Posted November 19, 2011 I didnt mean to imply that I wasnt proud of the Pirates before this season. I actually go to practices sometimes and I am always impressed when I speak to the players at how mature and respectful they are. That comes from good parents and coaches and teachers through the years that expect greatness from these young men. The Pirate program under Mathews has been one of honesty and integrity, from the man at the top, to all the coaches, players, and support staff. I am proud to call Jeff Mathews my friend because I know how much he truly cares for his players and wants only the best for them. But, on the field, this team is something very special. I also want to thank all of those not from Vidor who post on these pages in support and also those who come out and watch our kids play and cheer us on. Maybe now people will finally realize that we arent just a bunch of racial rednecks, but actually good people who radically support our teams on the court or field.
prepballfan Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 I think it was West Orange that they beat
