Against the better teams, Central is going to need some better outside shooting especially when the defense is not playing man to man.  Smith had his way in the Westbrook game and went to the basket whenever he wanted to.  He faced a different situation Friday afternoon and when that happens, somebody else has to be ready to contribute more.

It's hard to call plays when your lips are sealed shut. No Timouts being called or nothing. We expect a dep playoff run and we're not even competing with a 3a school. I know H-J is good, but geesh, show some fire and urgency. Lets see what we'll do in the second half.
A 3-A school. Sorry, but Central should be ashamed!
You have to look at the team and not the classification....There's 1A schools out there that can beat a lot of 3A's......but Dove, I cant help but think nash is behind this some how...
Put it this way, those Hj players can play with any 4 or 5a school in this area. They are well coached. Those kids stay within the game. i watched all three games and Hj and Silsbee has good sound coaches. Two 3a teams that can compete with any 4a or 5a  team in this area.
I think Ozen and PAM full throttle will be hard to beat IMO
I think PAM is the closest team in this area that can compete with HJ. HJ will win their district.
No, HJ is terrible this year, like they always have been. They don't have a chance against Silsbee or any team in the area.
Now, Make no mistake at all, Smith still let all Central scorers and did fairly well.  But just like you said, he was not ablwe to do it at will as in the West Brook game.  That's when we need plays called to get him free or more room to operate.  That's what was not seen last night.  In order for us to beat really good teams like H-J, we will need to get this done...  well, along with way better free throw shooting.

It's a long season and the teams that will do best are the ones that will identify and deal with their weaknesses because the better opponents will know them and do their best to exploit them- especially around playoff time-  If Central gets a reputation as a poor outside shooting team, then Smith might find it more difficult to operate.  He will get his points, of course, but the W is what the team wants.  On the other hand, if Central becomes a decent shooting team, Smith is going to have more freedom.  Smith will almost always be your leading scorer but I would bet you a dollar to a doughnut that his shooting percentage in the HJ game was considerably lower than it was against Westbrook.

Not sold on PAM, why are you? Lumberton took them to OT last week. I know it's early, but that can't be very encouraging for them. Unless Lumberton's transfers are that good?

PAM added a few more players with size to the varsity. PAM has quickness too. I'm only saying they may be the best right now to match up against HJ in this area right now.
Gotcha. I would think Silsbee has enough speed and quickness too, no?

As difficult as it may sounds to hear Silsbee & HJ may be the best teams in the area this year.

Big Ford, we have a big time player  too. H-J put him in great positions to cause damage...  Our coach wouldn't get up and call a single play.  He rather sit there and look cool.  Not once did he try to argue a call or call a timeout to adjust to H-J's trapping defense.  Just like I've stated before, our overall team talent will be enough for most of the games this year.  We'll probably win didtrict on talent alone.  But at some point, we will need our prime time players to step up.  Tonight, Prudhomme came through in a major way all over the court.  Not saying that Smith from Central didn't, because I know he had a big game and got a few dunks (since some people seem to think this is a new kind of stat even though a dunk, in my book is still 2 points), but we needed him in that run we had in the third period.  We need plays to get him open.  I'll take that loss on the chin to H-J.  They are a good team and they will give their district and most in the state fits.

Is that the typical Central's coaches demeanor?  I know our coaches actions tend to be a little more theatrical.

Ozen
better watch out, the two transfers from HF may now go to hj, no wait they don't live in hj , but they don't live in bmt either!
The HF transfers accepted their punishment by UIL rules committee and are fulfilling those obligations with no problems.  ;)

Persohn fouled out around 4 min mark.

Thanks to the awful UIL officials.

The officiating was awful across the board for the Fred Williams Classic. After visiting with him after the games, he sounded a little embarrassed as well. That chapter is losing ground.....FAST!!!!!!
