KFDM COOP Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Robertson found guilty in Kinne shooting Jury finds parent guilty in shooting of coach Associated Press CANTON, Texas (AP) - An East Texas jury on Monday found a man guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the shooting of a high school football coach. The same panel then began considering a penalty Monday afternoon for Jeff Doyal Robertson, who faces a prison sentence of two to 20 years. The jury in this small town about 60 miles east of Dallas rejected a charge of aggravated assault on a public servant in favor of the lesser charge. Robertson's defense attorney argued then-Canton high school football coach Gary Joe Kinne wasn't a public servant when he was shot. He said a high school football coach doesn't meet the standard of a public servant under the state penal code, which doesn't explicitly mention school district employees. Robertson, a hearing and air conditioning repairman, shot Kinne in April. Kinne was critically injured but has since recovered and is on the coaching staff of Baylor University. Robertson's son played on Canton's freshmen football team along with Kinne's son, who was the quarterback. The coach testified last week that Robertson passed by his office and called out to him. Kinne said he found Robertson leaning casually against a wall in the hallway outside the dressing room. "His face looked kind of lifeless," Kinne said. "It looked evil." Kinne said that Robertson smirked but didn't say anything before lifting a gun and shooting him. The blast pushed him back against the back wall of the dressing room. __________________
ESPN Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Looks like he may get off easy!
KFDM COOP Posted February 28, 2006 Author Report Posted February 28, 2006 He should get at least 50 in my opinion!
Mr. Buddy Garrity Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 How is his son doing? I couldn't imagine having a father thats an attempted murderer.
stang4life Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Wow...I certainly hope that the jury will send a message with this sentencing because we have so many parents who "ruin it" for kids. At any level...girls/boys...you see parents who are so trying to live through their children that it is sickening. There is so much politics and "mommas and daddies who missed their callings"---from little league to high school. Let the kids be and let them be kids! They should be learning and having some fun without some anal parent making a fool of himself and his child.
WOS92 Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 The stats on his son for this year, as I found them, were: 228-391-10 for 3,410 yards, 35 TDs; 185 carries, 852 yards, 15 TDs rushing.

rhino1877 Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 All i got to say is.......I hope the son can forgive the dad for what has happened. Too many kids try to make it through this world without parents.
