It amazes me how much talent that Manvel has.  Execution....well that's a different story.

I think the talent level has suprised the HC as well...looks like he really doesn't know what to do with all of it.  Great job none the less, can't complain making it to the State Championship.

Congratulations Aledo on your third-straight championship!

The voters for defensive and offense players of the game certainly got it right. Jaylen Hill penetrated the Manvel O line like no one has been able to do all season. And Matthew Bishop did so much offensively, but probably the dagger to the Mavericks was his escaping a very near sack on 3rd and 10 from the Aledo 25 with about 8 minutes left in the game. Aledo was only up by 7 points at the time, and a sack and subsequent punt would have given Manvel a very good shot at tying the game. Instead, he escaped and completed a 40 yd pass to save a possession that ended in the TD that put the game out of reach.

I’m still proud of the Mavericks. Too many penalties and dropped passes, but they made the great Jonathon Gray work hard for his yards, and were the only team to hold him under 3 TDs all season, holding him to a single. 4th quarter score (Stephenville didn’t really hold him to one in their playoff rematch – JG and the refs held him to one).

Manvel looses a ton (and probably pretty close to that in actual weight!) on their O and D lines, but their rotation style of play should help bring back a lot of experience, even in those positions. And they have a bunch of skilled positions returning as well. I’d be surprised if they come up with another QB to challenge McCarley, so next year may be the first time in a few years that Manvel plays a single QB.

5A will be quite a challenge for what will probably be a smaller but still very fast Maverick team in 2012.

#45 for Aledo did earn defensive player no doubt and not trying to take away from the kid but go back and watch the gsme, Manvels right tackle got hurt leaving Manvel to put a second string tackle in, like great coaches Aledo has they quickly relize this and switched #45 from the left side (had been relatively quite until then) to the right/back up tackle. This was a HUGE game changer in itself as Manvel was UN-able to pass the ball  after this  point due to the pressure #45 was getting on the qb. Great observation by Aledo coaching staff to expose this weakness.

Jonathan Gray played most of the game with a badly bruised knee that was swollen nearly twice it's normal size and a badly bruised shoulder.  He couldn't extend his knee fully.  On the high light film you can him limping off the field.  Didn't you think it strange he was run down from behind and forced out of bounds on the two long runs without any moves or cut backs like he did all year?  One was inside the ten.  Were it not for his injuries his stats would have been similar to last years against LaMarque.  Only reason Manvel had a TD at half time was because of a very questionable roughing the kicker call after a missed field goal.  Manvel certainly had the athletes but they got beat because of lack of playoff experience, mistakes, poor execution, and coaching.
