Good bye Stump and don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out!  He leaves a legacy of underachieving teams. He won games off of talent, never his coaching ability. He got too much credit for wins and never enough credit for the loses. Atascocita will be looking for a new coach in three years when they fire Stump for losing.
I don't have a dog in this hunt, but you can't have it both ways. Either you give credit to the coach when they win and blame him when they lose or give the kids credit for the wins/losses. If the talent was so good (as u claim), then don't you think the team could overcome bad coaching? So does the Ciabalo Steele team who beat PAM by 20+ points
have a good coach or is it pure talent? A TEAM can have all of the talent in the world (see Miami Heat), yet not win. It's not always the coaches fault, but many on this board LOVE to point the finger at the coach. I'm not just talking about this thread, but I see it all of the time (not just football coaches). It's kinda like the Monday morning QB! All of you who come on this board and talk negatively about coaches, I have a question for you: What is keeping you from applying for this opening to see what it takes to be a coach? Why did you not get into coaching in the first place if you think you could do a better job?
No talent can not always overcome bad coaching. I didn't get into coaching because it doesn't pay enough. Exxonmobil is paying me six figures to be an operator. And yes I believe I could do as well as he did, if not better.
Any job openings out there at ExxonMobile?  ;D
These coaches dedicate a HUGE chunk of their lives to coaching. Their hours are comparable to a physician, but the pay is not near as much. They provide so much to a kid's life which follows them throughout their lives. Winning is important, no doubt, but the coach can't do it all. We should all appreciate the dedication they give to our kids. I have a lot of friends who are coaches, and they barely spend time with their families b/c of the 100s of hours they work every week. I'm sure Coach Stump could have done something else with his career and made more money like you and me. But he chose the coaching profession, and I respect him for that. It takes a special person to be a HS coach.
I agree with everything you say about coaches and their profession! But, Coach Stump is not the great coach you guys are trying to make him out to be! He's an underachiever as a coach. Other coaches have done a lot more with a lot less.

I'm not a coach, so I don't criticize coaches. I'm not a physician, and I don't criticize them. I'm also not a refinery operator, so I don't criticize them. If I were a coach, physician, or operator, I believe that I would be very knowledgable in my field of work. If that were the case, then I would feel like I had the right to criticize the line of work in which I have actual experience doing.

Nice post, Dog.  But I have a problem with a refinery operator who thinks he can do a better job than a 5A coach in Texas.  My word to them is to get out of your comfort level and give it a try.  Seems like few are willing?

In successful organizations, integrity trumps blind loyalty every day of the week.  Blind loyalists will never see the truth because they refuse to open their eyes.

If you're the highest paid in the state (in the state, people!), then you should produce the best results.  If you don't, then the price tag just ain't worth it.

Maybe his people cannot see the truth becasue they are blinded by the "cheese" that is thrown their way.

RockinA, why don't you mind your own business. You are just a Thomas hater. This post is about Stump leaving not Sup Thomas.

Another blind loyalist, I see.  The truth is painful at first, fuseball, but follow the light and eventually you'll get used to it.

Coach Stump wasn't take care of, and as a result, BISD lost a good and dedicated coach.  I hate that, but I know he's going to a much better place.  You're right, this is about Coach Stump leaving.  I digressed, but I'm back on track now.  I apologize, but I saw the truth being ignored, and I had to bring it into the discussion.

BMTSoulJa1, I'm gonna agree with you on this one....Stump left for a better opportunity. IMO, who wouldn't move to a more affluent district with a big pay raise. I'm a supervisor with the big, stinky company on the east side of Beaumont and I can tell you never make a lateral move in business if you can help it. If Jeff Mathews told me he got the job, I would have told him "congratulations, you deserve it" and then doubled down on the Xanax to get over the deep depression that would set in. The same thing happened to you when Donald Stowers left Central. Stowers got a better offer and had to leave. You cried kitty tears all over the place; we could hear you on this side of the Neches. The BISD has issues but it manages three separate schools; it isn't a one horse town like Nederland, Vidor, PNG etc. Certainly, one school is gonna feel slighted over the others. When the people of Beaumont, in particular the supporters of WB, get serious about the affairs of that school, it will change. Were I a WB fan, I would become very vocal about and involved as much as I can with the BISD school board to influence their decision as much as possible. Can't complain if you sit on the sidelines.....

Still dodged my questions:

Normal....do you know what normal is these days?...Why couldn't we compete with Spring?...Katy?...You tell me why not....then I will show you "normal"....I know everyone will be aboard this....
The thing is, since WHEN did this become a competition?  Who said that we were trying to compete with ANYONE?  That's our problem now. Lets get some things done that will benifit our kids best.  We have Beaumont kids, not Spring or Katy kids.

Normal as far as what, athletics?  It's so many to name.  Look around you, man.  This is why schools and facilities are upgrading now because they were 'normal'.  West Brook was in the middle of a transition untill the unfortunate incident.  The plan was to have an upgraded facility for West Brook to be taken from the 'normal' status.

When you're #1 in the state, you are held to a much higher standard, right?  Who's the highest paid superintendent in the state?  Enough said as to why thomas gets the blame with anything that goes wrong within BISD.  Lower his salary to the appropriate level, and the intense attacks (which only seem to empower him) will decrease.  If taxpayers are paying for the most expensive superintendent in the state, then they want the best superintendent in the state.  That is clearly NOT happening in BISD.  IMO, all of the negative BISD press only reminds taxpayers that they're getting the raw end of the deal, and thus, they use, for example, the WB fieldhouse to vent.  Rid the district of the most costly budget item (thomas), and I believe you'll see folks begin to put things in perspective.

You think the kids at Lake Travis, Katy, Euless Trinity, Allen...etc have just a couple bar bells, a jump rope and nothing more?? Its called dedication and willingness to spend $$$ to build a top notch program. Are the tax payers in BISD willing to spend the $$$$$ Those kids would run through a concrete wall if there coach told them too.

Where was all this up roar when Mallett was running the district in the ground? The white coach leaves and some how it's the black superintendent's fault. I wonder would Dr. Thomas' salary be brought up on every possible topic if he was a white man? I tend to think no! You have people from Vidor chiming in about BISD when their school district had layoffs, forced retirements, and unrenewed contracts. Go figure.

Had to start working at 14, although I may have time to go back to school now...these days if you don't go to school, means you know nothing about football...otherwise, I'd be first in line!
