Tedlevon Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011

Not short-selling Kountze on this season; being new in town, I asked some people at the games-they've basically told me that a lot of the talent will be gone after this year. I was wondering what the make-up of the program was and how it will all pan out. I'm enjoying watching them play and hope they can right the ship.
I actually think its the opposite. We have few freshmen playing Varsity this year and a JV squad that's pretty good. We only lose Haynes, Linn and Warren this year. I'm actually anxious to see what D. Harper will do once he's cleared to play next week.
My wife and I were talking last night with one of the kids, and he agrees with you. Some real solid kids down on JV who haven't been moved up yet, including a couple of Juniors who've been running the system since elementary school, as well as Graylond who's still in middle school. Is D. Harper the one that transferred in from Beaumont? If he is, I've seen him play and he will also be a good addition as district play starts. Thank you all for indulging and educating me as I am still wet behind the ears here and continue to learn.
KHSAlum400 Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011
I've watched Kountze several times this year and youth isn't their problem. They are the smallest on the press I've ever seen a Lions club be so they are not getting the turnovers to run the break. The biggest trouble I've seen in the half court game is they don't have anyone to put pressure on the middle of the defense to open Linn up behind the arc. They basically have 4 people watching the man with the ball on the offensive end.On the bright side they have a guy on the bench that won't rest until he gets them lined out. They will finish in the top 2 in the district this year but I don't see a long playoff run for the Lions this year. It's dangerous to put all your eggs in a freshmans basket no matter how good he is projected to be.
Good summary whsalum. Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying put all of your eggs in freshman's basket. What I meant is that he will be a huge asset to the team because he is a TRUE PG. I think another problem this year is that we don't have an "on-the-court" LEADER or like you said one player that requires the attention of the defense. Without that man, nothing opens up.
whsalum Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 I'll agree it all stats with the PG.This years group doesn't quite have the make up to play the system that has worked so well for them for years.

KHSAlum400 Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 Kountze defeated Chireno yesterday 94-52! Way to bounce back.
aTmfan06 Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 Looks like White Oak is solid .. but Edgewood could be over rated
