nikespeed
I heard through the grapevine that LCM's Hunter Gonzales and Zack Sonnier were transferring to Lamar to play football. Can anyone confirm this?
77
I dont believe Sonnier is playing anywhere right now, heard he left the Demons before games got started this season.
nikespeed
Yeah I heard that, but I keep hearing that he's going to play at Lamar this coming semester.
orangecoog
If Lamar is ever going to improve, they should not pick up any former LCM players.

They are both talented but Hunter is moving to safety at Lamar.Congratulations and glad we got them coming to Lamar. We need more players like Andre Bevil? ::)
nikespeed
Thanks for clearing it up br360. I've been hearing those thingsbut I never knew forsure. Great pick up by Lamar. Those are two great players.
badndn
Gonzo at Safety makes a lot of sense. He is quick and smart. At QB it didn't make as much sense. Excellent HS football player, but not a D1 QB.Sonnier will provide depth at a position sorely needed when running the spread.
td
I thought they were coming back to try out. I didn't realize they were coming back under a scholarship. If that's so then congrats to both of them.
lcm2007ms
They're not on scholarship. Both will be preferred walk-ons.

I’m glad we are getting some local players but it seems there is no since of real loyalty to choices.

BaseBow
I agree with mj-7 100% on the home sickness....I am glad mine finaly fell into place in Fort Worth ...I was thinking mine was going to want to come back to Lamar...Congrats Gonzo and Sonnier....Do they have to set out a year? nikespeed
Got a chance to talk to Sonnier's dad, he says that neither have to sit out a year.In the case of Gonzo, I don't think it was so much home sickness, but more choosing the wrong sport out of Highschool. He wentbto Wharton to play baseball.
bigred360
No, they don't have to sit out a year as Sonnier left Northwestern before they played their first game and Gonzales was playing baseball last year.As for as loyalty, that is a two way street as there are often promises made by a coach recruiting a player and once he gets on campus it is a different story. This may give you a different side of Zack Sonnier.http://www.kogt.com/EditPages/LCM/ZSonnier%20Golden%20Bear.htmAs for as Hunter Gonzales he was voted to the Beaumont Enterprise Super Team for football, basketball and baseball. I'm sure there wasn't another kid with those awards. Here is another one for Hunter.http://orangeleader.com/hssports/x925650172/Gonzales-named-Male-Athlete-of-the-Year
