This was actually a very good game untill the 4th.  The wheels came off and Nederland rose to the challenge and put us away when it counted.  We know we can play with Nederland.  We need to work on some things in the 4th period.  We've lost many games this year due to no execution in the 4th.  I still say that you need your best players (G. Mitchell and K. Smith) to be in the best positions to do damage on set plays.  Smith is a good 3 point shooter.  Get him an open 3 point look off an off the ball screen. If they play it too tight, he'll drive in and finish at the cup.    Get Mitchell a good look off a quick curl for a midrange jumper.  If they overpersue, he can also finish at the cup in traffic.  If we want to beat Nederland in the second meeting and make a nice playoff run, these are things that we need to work on for the next few weeks, IMO.

As a Nederland graduate from 20 or so years ago, it still shocks me what Brian English has done here.  I never thought I would see the day when Central would be talking about being able to compete with Nederland and hopefully beating them in the next game.  Huge reversal of fortune.
Yes.  True.  He did it at Vidor and he is doing it here.  I gave you guys heck the last 2 years stating that the players are good as you have the Cunningham, Forney, Smith 3 headed monster.  Now, this team is getting it done by better coaching since this team isn't near as talented as last year's team.  English have had my respect for several years now.

I realize this is not relevant to this topic, but FYI, he played at Lee College in Baytown and at Wharton County JC. Then he tried out at aTm. He made it to the final cut of 4 or 5, and they only selected one person to make the team.

i know im going to here it on this, but its the truth

Most kids that go to central are uncoachable....let me say again..MOST not all.  I deal with this at the junior high level.  They would rather scrimmage, try to cross some one up, or jack up a three that they have no business shooting than work on fundamentals....like form shooting, passing the ball, ball movement, free throws, dribbling drills, etc

Most of them think they know more and whats best.  To many individuals and not enough team.

Watching the NBA is the worst thing for these young players.

Trying watching Princeton or Duke instead.

I got a call last night from the Humble area last night. He happen to mention in the conversation Nederland beat Humble last year in playoffs. Would Nederland face an opponent in the same district as Humble this year?  NO jmo

The 1st round game for all 20-4A teams will be against a team from the district that consists of BH, Crosby, GCM, CEKing. Ned beat Humble last year in the 3rd round by 1 or 2 points. That is the same round that Kingwood Park beat Ozen to make it to the regional tourney. Will prob be the 3rd round again before our district plays theirs.

Central has had lots of good teams in the past.  Are you saying the kids that go there now are somehow different than in the past?
I'm not going to ' give it to you' because I agree with most of what you are saying.  The one point that I don't agree with you on is that most are uncoachable. I think it  have to do with our staff actually 'Coaching' as it was shown in the beatdown in the 4th quarter Tuesday night.  Now, there is 1 Central player that can can say after seeing most of the Central games that are uncoachable (who probably needs to ride the pine for most of the season)  and 1 that is on the verge.  The rest of the players are COMPLETELY coachable.

Also, as I've stated on the preview show last night, the most dangerous teams are the slow down, lethargic type teams, wich is what Central is not.  We're good, but if we can't find a way to be able to play these kind of games and actually produce when it requires you to out-think the oposing staff, we'll continue to get exploited by teams like Nederland every time.
Central teams in the past have been good.  Within the last 8 or 9 years, Central went through a spell where we would get good players, but they are small.  Only about 3 years ago, we started getting good players with good size.  I think that the kids are not different.  They have about the same skill set, but our coaching is always holding us back from our true potential.  Also, the other teams have became a lot better.  With Coach English comming into his own, it is safe to say that he may have replaced Coach Boutte as being THE premier coach.

Central has had lots of good teams in the past.  Are you saying the kids that go there now are somehow different than in the past?
Central teams in the past have been good.  Within the last 8 or 9 years, Central went through a spell where we would get good players, but they are small.  Only about 3 years ago, we started getting good players with good size.  I think that the kids are not different.  They have about the same skill set, but our coaching is always holding us back from our true potential.  Also, the other teams have became a lot better.  With Coach English comming into his own, it is safe to say that he may have replaced Coach Boutte as being THE premier coach.

I agree that Coach English is one of the very elite coaches in SE Texas, but lets not forget about Coach Sutherland!!!!! ;) ;) ;)

I think Soulja was speaking only of 20-4A coaches. ;)

i know im going to here it on this, but its the truth

Most kids that go to central are uncoachable....let me say again..MOST not all.  I deal with this at the junior high level.  They would rather scrimmage, try to cross some one up, or jack up a three that they have no business shooting than work on fundamentals....like form shooting, passing the ball, ball movement, free throws, dribbling drills, etc

Most of them think they know more and whats best.  To many individuals and not enough team.

Watching the NBA is the worst thing for these young players.

Trying watching Princeton or Duke instead.
