BMTSoulja1
Seems like he sees that the talent pool at Friendswood was a little shabby and wanted to get away while he was still a high commodity. Pretty smart move. He wants to avoid consecutive subpar seasons, so he'll take just one.

Guest UHCoog14
I'm thinking Manvel and Dawson have drained the "pool" in Friendswood.

badndn
"In seven of his years as head coach, Van Meter’s teams lost to the eventual state champion. Those included teams from Bay City, Lamar Consolidated, La Marque and Lake Travis. On two other occasions, Van Meter-coached teams lost to the state finalist (West Orange-Stark and Nederland)." ??? Bigdog
Correct. It was 25-7 Nederland. 25-0 until the 4th quarter. Friendswood was ranked #2 in State at the time.
PN-G bamatex
Nederland wasn't a state finalist that year. Nederland lost 7-6 to Bay City (the eventual state champion) in the state semifinal. The last time the Bulldogs played in a state championship was 1961.
Seems like he sees that the talent pool at Friendswood was a little shabby and wanted to get away while he was still a high commodity.
