AggiesAreWe Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 From the Greater Houston area:Area McDonald’s All-American NomineesAs always, the Houston area is not lacking in nominees for the McDonald’s All-American games coming up in April. On the boys side, there are six players from the area: Wannah Bail, Lamar Consolidated Shaquille Cleare, The Village School Danuel House, Hightower Cameron Ridley, Bush L.J. Rose, Westbury Christian Rasheed Sulaimon, Strake JesuitNo player from the SETXsports area was nominated. For a full list of nominees, check here: http://www.mcdonaldsallamerican.com/2012%20Nominees.pdf
Dick Vitale Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Based on body of work, I think only Sulaimon (Strake Jesuit) will make that final 24 from the Houston area. Plus he is a Duke signee, which almost GUARANTEES the nod! POSSIBLY Cameron Riddley (FB Bush) as well. POSSIBLY. He is a 6'11" kid with tremendous upside, and has had a decent season to date.

House is a good player but I agree, not a final 24 player.
BLUEDOVE3 Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Possibly Sheed only invitee from area. There is no one in this area even close to making this list.
Dick Vitale Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Rose would be the FOURTH possible nod to make the final 24, after Claire, IMO....guards are a dime a dozen in all star games like this one, but true bigs are a definite rarity...LJ Rose IS the real deal though, and is going to be a really good collegiate player.
BADSANTA Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 SETX hasn't had a player inn the game since Perkins 03. Only other local player I remember in this game was Stephen Jackson in 96.
Dick Vitale Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 I think Luke Jackson (Westbrook) was nominated in 91, and so was Kelvin McKyer in 91 (PA Lincoln). I would venture to say that J'Covan Brown (Memorial) WOULD have too, had he finished his senior season.
AggiesAreWe Posted January 18, 2012 Author Report Posted January 18, 2012 Silsbee's Darrell "Boogaloo" McArthur in '86.
BADSANTA Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012
Silsbee's Darrell "Boogaloo" McArthur in '86.
Did McArthur play in the game? Don't see his name on the roster. Also Keith Harris PA Lincoln a finalist in 1995.
BADSANTA Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 For the women I think it use to be called the Kodak All American game and Laquan Stallworth and Brandi McCain played in it.

Just posted on the girls forum that Ozen's Asia Booker was nominated.
Honest Abe Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012
Possibly Sheed only invitee from area. The kid gets invited to participate in some games, then an all-American team of 24 is selected based on their performance in the games?
BADSANTA Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 No it's all on name recognition. Very bias on who goes and doesn't go. There are players who are just as good if not better that don't get the invite. AAU coaches run these events!
Dick Vitale Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Thats partially correct...It DOES matter what kind of senior season the player has to an extent. However the players who have inked to the big name programs are the ones usually selected, cause it creates a huge buzz about the event. BADSANTA is correct, because there are usually some snubs when it comes to the selection. Thats the nature of most all star events though.
2-2-1 Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Dickie V is spot on. That verbal or written declaration makes a huge difference. Can't wait to see what Duke is bringin in next year! Hopefully they can snag Shabazz ;D
BLUEDOVE3 Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 BS and DV are correct. May I also add you have to now be between the top 100-150 rankings or doubt if you get serious consideration by the committee. Its a long hype process that starts to get serious around the 9th grade and some sooner.
