no-look Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 Are they taught as much today in high school basketball as in the past?
Riding Solo Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 No, the simple fundamentals are not taught anymore.
Dick Vitale Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 Depends on where you are...Is it taught at Nederland? I would BET that it is...Is it taught ANYWHERE in BISD these days? I would BET that it is NOT.... :(.....WAS it taught before in Beaumont....You better know it! ;).... You cannot depend on athletic ability to get it done on the boards...Its an essential skill for program success.

I wasn't there, but am willing to bet my RIGHT ARM that you were!! ;)
Guest basketball25 Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 I love teaching blocking out!!!

BLUEDOVE3 Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 Most bigs I see now won't jump for a rebound. All they want to do is reach up for rebound.
vcbasketball15 Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 i graduated in 2007, and throughout all 4 years of basketball it was always hard pressed into our heads non stop during practice for about the first 2 weeks. it was never really absorbed though...about 80% of our games we were out rebounded....
Honest Abe Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 I can guarantee coach English coaches it. Earlier in the year, Ned was not a good rebounding TEAM. A big reason WB beat Ned was bc of not blocking out properly. Since then, Ned has done a great job and controlling the boards. Like Dickie V said, depends on where you are coached.
BLUEDOVE3 Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 yOU YOUNGSTERS kill me! Back in my day :D we played at the city parks and if you lost you may not get next up for awhile. IF you didn't block out, hustle, or play defense, you would not get picked up and your teammates or any other team. But *you youngsters* know nothing about learning skill sets at the park playing 3v3 or 4v4, sad :'(

Plus some parks just aren't safe to be in sometimes.

There are some Ozen kids ;) who went to the park by Odom and played after open gym prior to the start of school season.
