statistics, smatistics.  i know what you're saying, but when you're dealing with such a small amount of players on the floor on the time, +550 in enrollment is a much bigger deal than +200, and ratio is somewhat irrelevant.  If not, then 2A schools with enrollments of 200 should be competitive with 3A schools with enrollments of 750.

To paraphrase somebody else, The ratio system is an awlful system, But it is by far the best system available.

i think a 6A classification is the way to go.  making the gap between the smallest and largest schools in a classification would be better than the ratio system, IMO.

So 6A obviously would come out of the top half of 5A.

By doing this, you realize that this will cut down on schools in each classification therefore creating more districts that will have to require more travel.

There are some district right now who have to travel 6 hours round trip for a district ball game.

Surely you mean 6 hours cumulative and not one way.  I honestly had no idea there was any district where travel took 3 hours.  What towns are involved?

I did say 6 hour round trip. (3 hours one way)

In this new realignment today, starting next fall, Sabine Pass will be playing Mt. Enterprise and Tenaha in district, 175 and 190 miles from Sabine Pass. Evadale will be making this trip as well.

that sucks, but so does a small school meeting up with an inner city school in the playoffs that has 500 more kids enrolled and that is able to pull kids in from all over a huge city.

[/quote]You find a more feasible solution and we'll pitch it to UIL.  In the meantime, I'll watch teams like Kountze compete with 1/2 of the local 4A teams in the area and laugh at you.

You see, its the quality of the basketball pool that is so much more important than the size of the basketball pool.  Take HJ and Silsbee.  Together, they've beaten probably every 4A and 5A team in the area this year alone.

Based on the records of these two the years,  it is a pretty good argument that they have been the best two teams in the area both years if not longer.  Pretty good record for two smaller schools.

I don't understand why smaller states have 6 classifications and Texas is still at 5. There are many more students, yet few classifications. I understand there is some issue with travel, but that problem already exists.

I just did a quick look at some other states and noticed that Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska have 6 classifications and Arkansas has 7. Why are we squeezing more kids in 5 classifications?

[/quote]To really answer your question. The top 12 players from S.E.Texas could not compete with Yates, Flower Mound, and I could think of a couple more. Now, those 12 could compete with Furr, Waltrip, probably Jones, and maybe one or two schools in the Ft. Bend County school area.

laugh away... if kountze was 3A, they'd be about the 30th best team in the state. and there are many 3A schools that are closer in size to Kountze than they are to the 3A schools at the top of the spectrum.  and this is the reason i brought up huge cities, and schools pulling in kids from all over those cities, but keeping enrollment under 1000.  Which basketball pool has more quality... Hardin Jefferson, or the entire city of Houston, which Yates seems to pick and choose players from?
