TLB0 Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Are there any upcoming freshman who may make the varsity squad. Or can make a big impact at their school
Arrow15 Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Shane Selman at Westbrook and Ky Walker at PNG.
Arrow15 Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Also have to add Ford Proctor and John Darling (Kelly) and Grayson Padgett from HJ. All are excellent ball players and have been playing at the highest level in select for several years.
Ralph Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 WOS should start three to four freshman. The Anderson twins, Rutledge and possibly two more depending on several factors. WOS will be very young in almost every position this year.
TURN2 Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Ky Walker (PNG) is going to be a good one.
Guest UHCoog14 Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 If you are having to play freshmen in 4a and above, that IMO is not a good sign.
Arrow15 Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 I don't think Walker "has" to play. PNG is stacked from what I hear. This kid is just good. Can play every position and is a jam-up pitcher. Probably could make just about anybody's varsity squad.

HE DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A TYPICAL FRESH.
mccktown Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Austin Marshall from Kountze is a name to listen for. The kid is a lefty with a smooth swing can play first r outfield but will help alot with the pitching.

OLDGREGG Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Ethan "johnny" Franklin from Buna. Incredibly strong arm and can hit the ball 400+ feet. He Should do some damage in that 2a district.

But both young men are outstanding ball players for Freshman. PNG is loaded with quality JR, SOPH, and FRESHMAN this year on their varsity. Should be a fun team to watch.
Franchiseball Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Big E will for sure help the pitching staff in Buna. Austin Marshall maybe the best hitter of all the freshmen if he keeps his head on straight .In the big schools if your depending on freshmen that's not a good sign even at the smaller schools that's not a good sign.

aTmfan06 Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 I've also heard really good things about Austin Marshall from Kountze ... him and Ethan are prolly the front runners for district newcomer of the year once the season starts.

He needs to know that no one will ever see his athletic prowness if those grades are not kept up. :(
Guest hottestbats Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 What position does the Walker kid play and who will he be backing up? What position does the Lane kid play. If this is the case where PNG has to have 2 freshman on the team than depth must be a problem.
Critter Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 IMO.....Having a freshman start on varsity doesn't always mean you lack depth..... could mean that he is that GOOD and the coach's have seen something in him!!!!

Guest Dirty Bay Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Christian Rios and Zac Garcia made varsity as freshman for their defense and sticks for Baytown Sterling last year. We didn't have a strong year last year but the experience really helped them.

Just 5 years ago, the chance of a 9th grader making the varsity at RSS zero.

There is alot of upper classman talent that is looking pretty good.
Arrow15 Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 A friend of mine in Groves told me that Walker is now the backup shortstop to Daniel Sparrow (Sr.). Walker can play anywhere except catcher and will see pitching time this year. Lane is a catcher and is NOT on varsity. Lane will be a JV guy due to the depth that PNG has.
