bullets13 Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Has been very heartbreakingly close to get a signature win 3 times over the past 10 days. three losses to top-7 teams by a total of 7 points. at 14-9, and 3-6 in the big 12, they've got some serious work to do to make the tourney.
bmrm Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012
Team is too young this year.
Agree - NIT should be in their future.
bullets13 Posted February 5, 2012 Author Report Posted February 5, 2012 they have 4 or 5 winnable games coming up. none of them will be signature wins, but they'll have a shot to go about .500 in the big 12 with over 20 total wins. they might squeak in. who knows.
CThoops Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 Texas has potential.. They have shown they can compete with any team in the Big12, but late-game execution is hurting.. And the lack of some consistent inside game gets them beat often too..If Coach Rick can convince JB to come back to school, next years team will be ranked top 10 pre-season after adding these recruits
bullets13 Posted February 5, 2012 Author Report Posted February 5, 2012
Is Rick in trouble?
nah. they've lost what, 5, 6 players leaving early to the draft in the last 2 years?
bullets13 Posted February 12, 2012 Author Report Posted February 12, 2012 rattled off three straight against TT, A&M, and K-state. none signature wins, but all decent wins that will help come tourney time. up to .500 in conference.
shorttexas1 Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 Its funny Texas went from needing guards to needing Bigs... I think it is failed recruiting by Barnes. He doesnt recruit enough role players that will give him 3 to 4 years so that he would alway have veterans. Also, he is losing on the top in-State recruits. 2010 Perry Jones & Phil Pressy (initially gave UT a verbal) , 2011 LeBryant Nash, 2012 its Isaiah Austin & Marcus Smart
Dick Vitale Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 Yes it is...I think he just failed to account or plan for the NBA exodus that he experienced...
shorttexas1 Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 It should be far and in-between when Texas loses a Big In-State recruit. Imagine a Perry Jones, Tristen Thomas front court last year. And I think he is too against JUNCO recruits. There were a few good Junco Bigs last year and Barnes did not even look twice to fill his void in the middle.
shorttexas1 Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 However, If Mike and Brown stay for next year and McClellan and Holmes improve.... They will be pretty darn good!

BLUEDOVE3 Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 And don't forget the kid (?) from La Marque, the sg.

CThoops Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 The underclassmen should all be staying. Brown, Kabongo, Lewis, and McClellan is pretty good back-court rotation to build on.. Those freshmen bigs are going to need to step it up
shorttexas1 Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 You really cant count on the Canadian staying... They leave even when they arent ready, see Joseph and Avery! So Gibbs REALLY needs to step up! I hope Jevon Felix is ready to play!
ForeverADog Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 I'm okay if Kabongo leaves. He's the most disappointing recruit in a long time as far as expectations coming in. I hope everyone else stays.
shorttexas1 Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 I wish he would stay... he will be MUCH better next year. His problem isn't skill, its understanding the game, and you can only learn that being in games. The more games he plays, the better he will be!

At Findlay Prep, he had the green light every time to run as fast as he could down the court and make the whole game transition.. He will be so much better when he gets taught the college game and slows down a bit
bullets13 Posted February 19, 2012 Author Report Posted February 19, 2012 a bad loss for the horns tonight against Okie St. of course, OSU shot 56 freethrows, and UT shot 18...
bullets13 Posted March 9, 2012 Author Report Posted March 9, 2012 Texas is up 4 against against 22-9 ISU in the Big 12 tourney right now. i think if they pull off the minor upset, it's possibly enough to get them into the big dance.
bullets13 Posted March 9, 2012 Author Report Posted March 9, 2012 Horns pick up a HUGE win! gets them to 20 on the season, and is a quality win for their resume.
