stevenash

Very good analysis. The only thing I may add would be that although the Tigers may have been tired I believe the pressure in the fourth wasnt as intense because of the foul trouble with two guards fouling out and another with four. And the inside game for HJ benefited for the same reason with both of our bigs starting the fourth with for apiece and fouling out. Great game!
I think some may be taking this statement in the wrong way. All I was trying to say is I think the changes and adjustments were more a result of foul trouble than fatigue.
I guess I look at it differently. I believe you are much more prone to foul somebody when you are tired than when you are fresh. Your feet move a little less quickly and you tend to try to compensate with your hands- unless the refs are extremely liberal, that is going to generate some more fouls particularly against a team that is a sound one. If you are playing "Our Mother Mary of The Blind" you probably wont get as tired or as tested and hence less likely to get in foul trouble. First thought that comes to mind is what kind of foul situations did Silsbee experience against Navasota ( if what I heard is true about Navasota being fairly fast and competent, I would guess there was a heavy foul number in that game also)
ST413
I agree with that, I am just saying that we were already in foul trouble by the time the last period began(which is when I feel fatigue would have been a factor). So we had to back off the aggresiveness some. And was also a reason HJ was able to go inside more, our big men were there already. I know the foul trouble was evident on both sides to a degree so I know it changed some play on that side as well. We comitted most of those fouls before fatigue was a much of a factor in my opinion. As far as that Navasota game, I don't remember from looking at the stats and wasn't there so not sure how bad the fouls were.

But those situations force you to adjust. If most of the fouls were committed before fatigue was evident, you can also credit that to an aggressive man to man defense. There are many instances where the aggression created a turnover but many that created a foul. If you are going to accept the rewards of that defense you are also forced to accept its liabilities, particularly against a competent team that is not likely to fold its tent and submit. My guess is that if you calculate the average per district game foul count for the Tigers and compare it to the average per playoff game foul count, it will be considerably larger due to the calibre of competition. BADSANTA
There is no team in SETx that could play within 20 points of Yates. They are just as fast as Silsbee, with HJ's size then some, and killer defense. The are all run and gun! They usually take about 75 plus shoots per game. We had to adjust and HJ took advantage. I can only really recall one foul off hand that wasn't probably a result of our aggresiveness and that was Gaines fourth. He was caught off guard by a good steal by HJ and reacted drawing the foul. Most if not all of the rest were the result of our aggresiveness. bball2011
I was impressed with Silsbee's man to man defense...you don't see many teams playing a man to man defense the whole game. It seemed to me that HJ don't have a true point guard and that hurts them against Silsbee. The free throws were there difference in the game in my opinion, if HJ would have shot the same percentage that they did in Silsbee they would have lost. HJ and Silsbee also never get rattled by the scoreboard or what's going on around them, so you make a basket, you better not celebrate cause the other team will be down the court scoring another one. Good luck to both teams in the play-offs...

bball2011
It also is "futile" to say that one team is better than the other...which so many have...it has been proven that on any given night either team can WIN...Again, Good luck to both in the playoffs...
