What is sportmanship really some say spiking a football is unsportsman like. I say its a part of the game why shouldnt a kid celebrate scoring plus the mental part comes in look at tiger half of them golfers were playing for second before the first tee shot. Until they realized hes human like them. So hootin and hollering is part of getting in the other teams head if they dont think they can they probably wont even if they are a better player. As a famous baseball coach once said cheating is fair till you get caught thats why they put umps in the game. And i bet most coaches would agree with that statement.

Very important...what we all must remember is that these are STUDENT athletes, so therefore, teaching needs to take place on the playing fields as well as in the classroom...Constant teaching moments....Life lessons...not just x's and o's.

Cheermom have you ever had fun losing. :-*

Actual when my kids beat me at something fair and square yes I have fun.  Do I like losing?  No way but it happens.

it's very important.  most of these kids will never play at a level beyond their HS team, and the life lessons they take from their coach will be much more important than what they learn about the actual sport.

So what does sportsmanship include.  Running your mouth during a game?  Heck, even pregame?  Grabbing other players in inappropriate spots during a game?  Where do you draw the line between trying to get into someones head and being unsportsmanlike?

I don't have a problem with trash talk from the opposing team. ;D

Am not a fan of trash talking but it seems to have become accepted conduct these days.  Am always tickled/pleased when some guy comes out and thinks he is Mr. Intimidator/Mr. Defiant and then he is sucked in by an up fake and his intended victim steps under him.

Dove, I think Nederland believes all energies should be directed at playing better instead of talking about it.

Or someone who hits a 3 pointer and talks trash when they are behind by 20+ with 2 minutes to play.

I know there are things that go on during the game that us fans do not hear or see (from both sides) but what has gotten me is teams not shaking hands after the game. My thoughts are you play hard and leave it on the floor and when it is over you should  a gracious winner and/or loser. At that point it is over.

As most questions about general propositions like this here are prompted by specific events, I am curious as to what recent specific event prompted this question about a general proposition.
