BLUEDOVE3 Posted March 6, 2012 Report Posted March 6, 2012 20 plus years ago. History WILL NOT repeat itself in 3-A.
HJ2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Report Posted March 6, 2012 Okay, here are my two cents. For those of you that don't know, I am, well, I WAS a player as of last friday at around ten o'clock. I have played HJ basketball for 4 years now, and I can honestly say that in all my four years, I have never seen a team as disciplined as LaVega. They were in a lot of ways like Nederland except far more athletic. They did nothing dumb or flashy, they just played solid, fundamental basketball.Players from LaVega were where they were supposed to be at all times. When we went up one with forty seconds left and tried to make the pass up the court to get it across and stall, the LaVega players knew they needed to get the ball. They knew who our go-to guy was Prudhomme, so they stuck to him like glue. No timeout was needed to tell their players where to be.The defense they played was awesome. Not perfect, but awesome. They started out soft and let you get the ball up the court for the first part of the game, then around the third quarter, they started a little half-court trap defense, then once crunch time came around, there was full-court pressure! HJ knew how to beat it and had prepared for it, but Friday night, after getting ready to take the floor because Athens was shooting free-throws to win it basically, and then having to wait through TWO overtime periods did something to both teams that night, I can promise you that.LaVega was a [s]good[/s] great team. Their will to win was just like that of HJ's. They were not unbeatable, and anyone who watched Friday night could have told you that. HJ, I dare to say, COULD have one that game, but I don't think SHOULD have one the game. Were we capable of winning that game? NO DOUBT!!!!! But capability, probability, and actuality are three totally different things that can be extremely painful when they all don't agree. Now for the most important part of my post. LaVega's basketball team (not it's fans, because I am hearing differently of them, although I'm not positive about them) was the classiest group of young men I have seen in a LONG time (aside from HJ of course). They were extremely happy that they one that game, but when we went to shake their hands, there was not an ounce of sneering or disrespect coming from them. All they had were positive things to say about us and I think that is the most important aspect of High-School athletics. After the game when we were waiting on the bus to come pick us up at the back of the Coliseum, they came out AGAIN and shook all of our hands, congratulating us on a great season and complimenting all of us. They were extremely well-mannered, and if I HAD to lose to anyone, I'm glad it was them.
stevenash Posted March 6, 2012 Report Posted March 6, 2012 I witnessed some of the LaVega class that you mention on the grounds after the teams had left the gym. Those kids also are ahead on the "learning curve" and it will serve them well long after basketball is no longer a big part of their lives.

cbosha Posted March 6, 2012 Report Posted March 6, 2012 I guess blue dove can see into the future. Alot of people said the same thing about our '89 team. ;D :D :D We proved them dead wrong. Never say Never..Instead of hating, try congratulating. 8)

I think it works very much to the advantage of HJ and we should just let them continue to tell us how bleak the future is, that times are changing, yada yada yada. It makes them feel relevant and enlightened and it makes them believe they are really " getting to us" etc etc etc. This has been going on for some time and I am more than happy with the accomplishments of the team over that period. So, if you do anything, find a way to make them spew more of that stuff.
cbosha Posted March 6, 2012 Report Posted March 6, 2012 It is refreshing to know that there are kids out there that know how to win with dignity. They couldve been rubbing the win in our players' faces. They couldve taken their shirts off and taunted the crowd. They couldve done the "stanky leg" or the 'wooble" dance at halftime, but they chose the higher road. I have alot of respect for those guys.
BLUEDOVE3 Posted March 6, 2012 Report Posted March 6, 2012 The problem is when Dove make his predictions, they usually come true ;)

Perhaps a one percenter can find a way to forestall your predictions?

stevenash Posted March 6, 2012 Report Posted March 6, 2012 Poppabear has already provided the proof of that prediction. Would you like to see it again?

cbosha Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 Blue dove didn't you predict last year that Hampshire fannet would win district this year?

stevenash Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 You are busted, Dove. Its on the LCM vs HJ thread where you basically said you were delaying the prediction by one year.

But I delayed it and said they would make playoffs, and whats your point? We had 4-6 kids who left HF and attended other schools, and the prediction was changed.
stevenash Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 Nope- it was state championship prediction
homeless Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 HJ simply lost to a better team last week. LV is just a better team than HJ this yr. There is no evidence to the contrary, only sentiment.
