Why would you even think that the local talent from Sour Lake, Nome, China, Silsbee, Kountze, etc. would be in anyway competitive with talent from Houston? It's all about numbers - Houston has them and Southeast Texas doesn't - duh! So why do you claim Houston teams as yours when your boys play for a Beaumont school - seems somewhat hypocritical.

[/quote]I don't think its numbers at all. Basketball is a skill sport. It depends on your genes and the time you put into it. If numbers were the case, WB would be dominating this area in basketball. If numbers were the case, HJ should be getting smacked by area schools. I still have property in Houston-pay HISD taxes. So they're still my team ;)

HJ has a basketball culture that contributes materially to whatever level of success that they happen to achieve. If that culture were present at Westbrook, I suspect they would be a one of the premier teams in the area.

ST413 Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 It is numbers of skilled players....a Yates may have 12 skilled players where area schools are usually luck to get 6 or 7.

I don't think Yates' players are that skilled, IMHO. Its the system.
ST413 Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 Maybe so but after sering them this year both numbers and numbers of skilled players play a part. I dont see any of our area teams with enough numbers or skilled players to be able to play a 6'6 player outside. Especially starting one 6'7 post and a 6'6 player outside with the skills of Santee.

ST413 Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 I remembered him from seeing them 2 years ago. He has definitely worked hard. But playing him outside is a product of numbers. If he es in Silsbee at that height he would be playing inside.

ST413 Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 Exactly...Yates through open enrollment may only have 3A numbers but they are drawing players from a huge number of students. It may be legal but its hardly an even playing field.
BLUEDOVE3 Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 I meant disadvantage to Santee playing center at a 3-A small school like HJ or Silsbee. His position at the next level will be on the wing. He's getting that experience now. See too many kids play out of position in high school.

They may have 3A or even 4A numbers in attendance but with open enrollment in Houston. They are pulling players from numbers higher than even 5A.
