Yall really think WOS could hang with the 5a schools. HA! What was the score last year with Orangefield? what was the score last year with Hampshire Fannet? And you think you could hang with PAM or West brook.  this is funnny

You are comparing WOS to Orangefield and "Hampshire" Fannett?? Dude.....are you serious???

What about dayton more playoff wins than any 4a team in the entire region the past 5 years. Brenham cant even come close to that.
I was going back alot further then 5 years more like the last 30 years, also how they are consistently good at all sports.  Dayton has more wins the last 5 years for sure.

No he is saying wos barley beat Orangefield and HF last year, so they wont be able to hang with teams like pam.

Ohhhh! Thanks for clearing that up for me bro. A lot of people fail to realize that WOS struggled early last year under a completely different offense. Once they found their groove they were a totally different team. We ran up against an awesome Coldspring team last year who was just better. In my personal opinion, I think WOS is better this year than they were last year.

Alto And San Augustine cant hold a candle to any of the Top teams in SETX (WO-S, Westbrook, PA memorial, Nederland,) and they shouldnt be able to by all accounts but to be the best in the area you have to be able to say you can go to every teams district and compete with everyteam.
Really? I think the post was in reference/response to the previous post concerning 1A. SA is the top 1A team in SETX.
I will make an early prediction and say that SA will make a deeper run than any team in the area. Not only are the Wolves dropping to 1A, but they have tons of kids returning.
However, as far as being able to compete with top 4A/5A teams, I doubt they could do that. But that's not comparing apples to apples. Do any of us expect Sam Houston to be able to compete with aTm or Texas? Sam Houston will begin the season with high hopes since they are returning a lot of kids from last year's team, but they lose to aTm and UT 99/100 times.
Good luck SA!

Here are a few records to back me up.

Here's there record with LCM (a 4A school incase you didn't know)

Here's another one with a 3A school Jasper

Last year they took the 20-4A district champs to overtime and came very very close to winning. I think that speaks for itself.

What has Coldspring done against the greats of SETX?
coldspring beat WOS last year in playoffs. So that would make them better than WOS advancing all the way to the semi's i believe. The year before that they played for the state championship. Do not get me wrong WOS is very good, but the simple fact is Coldspring is better.
The past 4 years yes Coldspring has had the upper hand but lets check
consistency here. Who has been consistently good?
True WOS has been a better program over time, but i think, this is just my opinion, that Coldspring is the best small school team is setx this year, so they have the best chance of beating the other teams like WB. Not saying that they would, but i think they have a better chance. Just because WOS has been better in the past that does not mean that they are better in the present.
hate to disagree with ya two cents, but the WOS of now in no way compares to the WOS of old. I know, I played against them. Today, Coldspring is the better team and they have proved it. I saw the playoff reel. As far as SETX, seriously, who is gonna match up with PAM? And don't say Westbrook(not this year).
WOS is everyone's favorite example of a team dropping from 4A to 3A and not dominating 3A. It also is worth noting that the 4A teams of SETX are generally among the weaker districts of 4A. The 4 playoff
teams in PAM's district are light years beyond WOS and it should not really be up for debate.
Since 1985, WO-S has been the most consistent FB program in SETX! Winning 138 district games and losing only 16 from 1985-2011 WOS dominated their last year in 22-5A before dropping to 4A in 1986. They won state in 1986 and 1987 in class 4A. They were state runner up in 1988 (we had them beat that year, BTW  >:( and the following year) and they finished state runner up in 2000 as well. They dominated District 20-4A for 15 years or so. Not sure what they have done (or not) in class 3A, but they usually go deep in the playoffs. WO-S has been losing numbers more rapidly than most schools, and I believe that is why their dominance has diminished (somewhat) over the past few years. Not to mention losing a legendary coach in Dan Hooks last year. They are the MOST consistent team (from SETX) year in and out.

WO-S has 10 seniors starting on defense, 8 of them were starters last year, and 5 of them are 3 year starters.. They also have 5 kids on defense this year with D-1 offers already.. WO-S will kick butt this year trust me
They might, all the way up until they play La Marque. :D

Hmmmm......LaMarque.....we've seen them a few times before. This is a new era for the Mustangs. Last year we made the quarter finals when everyone gave up on us in week 3. The new era is more of the same. The same coach that has been there for the past 30 yrs, he just has a different title. No predictions out of me except we will win. We will win many games just like we always do. I'll ask yall this, who in this area can say they have NEVER had a sub .500 season? Man, I would even like to see the stats of schools state wide. I'm not saying we win state or make long runs every year. but you have to admit, we have been the most Dominant team in SETX history.

You mean the same La Marque that WO-S beat 10-6 the last time they played them?

In a way WO-S and La Marque are kind of similar to each other. Once bigger classifications but have dropped as people have moved out of the district, poor performing schools, both have changed in terms of demographics, both are teams with almost all black players coached by white coaches, La Marque is expected to dominate 3A just like WO-S was expected to, both have championship tradition.

No pun intended but the 1983 WOS team was 3-7.Then the 01 team 5-5 but I agree the Stangs have been the most consistant over a long period  in 3 classifications 8)

Oh, yeah...your right. Forgot about that. Gasilla could tell you more about that season. ;D.

But still, we have had 1 sub par season. I was wrong on years too. It's not 30 years, its 35 years.  8)

    • Solid week.  Alone in 4th for the playoffs.  If I hadn’t started off down 16-18 picks after 4 weeks I’d be up near the top 🤦🏻‍♂️
    • This is good info. It doesn’t really break out for student athletes though. LP & (I think) DP are open enrollment because of the way the towns intertwine. That’s the way it’s been for many years anyway. I assume it still is that way. The kids have a choice after Jr. High to go to either High School because LPISD has elementary schools in DP. As I recall, DP didn’t want to build out more (Robin Hood issues), and so DPISD & LPISD came to an arrangement because LPISD is one of the highest givers to Robin Hood in the state, and it helped both keep more funds in district. Of course, LPISD is open to all. Not just DP, and LPISD is rated well. So, I assume they have kids from elsewhere also. Not positive though. They used to have a lot because—for decades—DeWalt was the only dedicated public school in the GHA that specifically catered to special needs kids. Families from all over enrolled. But, they didn’t participate in extracurricular activities like sports. So, LP’s total enrollment made them 6A. But, they were really a 5A school all along for sports program sake. This is all as best as I can recall from when I was more involved in school issues. I’m sure a lot has changed since then. My kids have been out for 20 years.
    • Our playoff rivalry. They hold a 6-5 edge in the series. I think Newton continues the win streak in a hard fought contest. What say y’all?
    • Has Elmo gotten his aggy premature extension yet?  Pay him already because you guys were exactly right - he really does “get you.” 😂🤣
