Tommy Collins - New HF coach-They got a good one

Recommended Posts

I have known Tommy for over 20 years.  I was a volunteer assistant with Lamar (Tony Branch) and Tommy was on that staff.  He is a hard-nosed defensive specialist.  He is a no-nonesense guy that the SERIOUS Players will love.  His brother played for the Cinc.Reds back in their hay-day. (Not sure how to spell hay-day)  HF just got a real good one.

Don't know the guy, but apparently he was on the Lamar staff when my brother played there...Don't know how good of a hire it is or not, but I wish him luck anyway.

The other individual who said it was a great hire has a pretty good basketball pedigree himself so why not take his word for it.

Who said I didn't...I just said that I didn't know the guy...He has to contend with Yates next season too, so we will see how good he is then... ;) 8)

So if you dont beat Yates you are somehow not a good coach?  HF wont beat Yates if they hire Phil Jackson.( and, of course, HF only uses players from their area- what a foreign concept to some) ALso circumstances dictate that it is unlikely HF and Yates will meet next season.  Why on earth would you suggest that as a barometer of competence?  Is Pat Knight not a good coach because they were beaten soundly  by Kentucky?    Are Mr. Sutherland and Mr. Sigler poor coaches for having lost to each other?  Your suggestion does not contain a lot of logic.

Once again stevenash, as you always do, you have taken a simple well wish from me to the new HF coach as some sort of insult to his ability to coach....Bottom line is this...NONE of the teams in this area will beat Yates next season...PERIOD....3A, 4A, or 5A....It matters not.....how about that?...As far as playing with "area" kids, I think you should just stop right there...Really?  ::) ::)

So let me get this straight... H-F has had for its head basketball coach the last four guys: a football/baseball coach, a girls basketball coach, a middle school basketball coach and now a former college coach who hadn't coached high schools since the 1970s.

How about hiring a boys high school basketball coach to coach the boys high school basketball team? Try that and see how it works.

The aforementioned circumstances would have HF getting far enough in the playoffs to encounter Yates.

No way- not with that patsy schedule they play- the probably wont even make the playoffs-  I know the new HF coach and have high degree of respect for him-  at same time, it may be unrealistic to expect him to get far enough in the playoffs to encounter Yates next year

If you get 3rd in district 21-3A, you will play Yates in the 2nd round if you win the 1st round.  You know what that means.  The 1st place team in 21-3A will play them in Regional Quaterfinals.  2nd place will have the easier route, but still have to beat Yates.  All this is based on this past years bracket.

[/quote] Interesting!  I bet there will be some calls made to Austin [s] from HJ[/s].... ERRR I meant 21-3A reps to get the  rearranging  process started this year ;D

Wont matter- if pre district is that weak, they will most certainly lose first round if they got lucky and made the playoffs

    • Has Elmo gotten his aggy premature extension yet?  Pay him already because you guys were exactly right - he really does “get you.” 😂🤣
    • It’s been awhile, but I seem to remember 5 D starters out & 2 O starters out (OL). A big difference is that Simon wasn’t involved yet. He’s totally changed LP’s rushing attack from last year as a bruising, explosive addition to Barnes, Sandolph & Bright. Last year—and early this season—LP was missing that element. Now, Coach Berneathy is not making talented players wait like many other coaches & even his predecessors at LP. If the kid can produce at the varsity level, they’re moved up. And man, has Simon produced! Over 1200 yards & 20 TD’s in less than a full season so far! It’s allowed LP to alternate RB’s where Barnes doesn’t take all the pounding. Barnes and Sandolph are also able to split out as receivers as desired to add threats that weren’t really an option last year. The PNG/LP game was a full-on tilt & good for both squads. I remember Gary Joseph in the end zone giving his son pointers as an extra set of eyes since he’d had experience with LP in past PO matchups. That was a good game. The score wasn’t really indicative of the game. Not sure anyone felt it was over until the final whistle! Good luck to y’all in Cajun Country. Bring back a win for SE Texas. (Yes. La Porte is still SETX. Ha!)
    • SEC fan bases before Texas got there: “The horns aren’t ready for this. Every week is a battle.” SEC fan bases after Texas arrived: “Texas has the easiest SEC schedule ever!” SEC fan bases after every one of their teams has lost to one or more SEC teams from the bottom half of the standings, many of whom Texas beat comfortably: 🤐
