sabine lake

if i want to bring my son fishing on sabine lake where is a good spot to launch the boat and where is a good spot out there to catch speckle trout?

Launch at the Causeway leading to Louisiana.  From there. you can go north and try to find birds in the lake(around Bluebuck point if you have a Sabine map) or go south and fish the lighthouse cove area.  Not too hard to find.  You can't miss the lighthouse and the dozen or so boats that will be in the same area on a weekend.

what about the north end of the lake?  anyone catching any good fish?

Be very careful of Lighthouse Cove.  Depending on the tide,  it can get VERY shallow and rip a boat bottom up.

last time we were out there we saw a guy try to outrun a wave from a ship with the outboard, but he'd forgotten to raise the trolling motor.  you could hear it snap from 200 yards away.

talked to some people last night who were coming in with 10 from the jetties and 20 from sabine.

I finally had a good night in the ship channel. The biggest one on the left was just short of 21". My first limit this summer.

Nice catch.

A coworker reported catching plenty of specs after work Tuesday around an Island at the mouth of the Sadine river. He also said he saw plenty of Jellyfish and Manowar. Pretty unusual that far into the lake.

Very good question.  Been wondering that myself.  My first guess would be the jetties for 2 reasons:
1) they were smokin' hot last week
2) The jetties are the farthest away from all of this fresh water influx from the rivers.

Went to the East jetties on Sun pm.  Looked all over that muddy water fir fish.  Finally picked up 7 trout near the cut,  but we tried everything and everywhere... including TX side and short rigs.  TONS of gafftops and sharks.  :-\

You are right about the sharks and gafftops.We fished from Chenier to end of jetties Sunday morning and ended up with a few flounder and specs.Oh yeah i also see the lady fish are out in numbers.

10-4 on the Lady Fish,  however,  it's been my experience that they are often accompanied by Specks,  so I can tolerate them....for a while.
