Chester86
Amazing how quickly the best season of the year comes and goes. We are getting close to our world series, so my mind starts looking to the next season. My middle son is 13 now, and we have had a great season and he has done very well. My question is to parents of older kids. Do these speed schools really help? They have a very good one at Athletes in Pt. Neches, and one at Exygon. I know they are pretty expensive, but I think as they get closer to high school you have to start looking for that competitive edge. A friend of mine has a good saying, "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work." We are looking at enrolling both our younger boys at the school in Port Neches, but just wanted to get some feedback from parents who have already been down this road. westend1
I hate to knock it but I have been around a few kids who do it and I frankly haven't seen much difference.

There are about 10 levels. My son ranked 4th from the top level on his initial tryout. The tryout consist of different speed drills, pull ups, vertical jumps, etc...After 4 months he moved up 2 levels, then we got busy and didn't finish.....He went about 8 months, twice a week. If you missed a qualifying day, you had to wait to the next month.I watched slower kids move up as well, but not to the top levels. I think it does help. Do I think it will take a slow kid and make him faster than average......no.
