"Humble ISD made extensive reductions - 300 positions in 2011 - to prepare for the extreme budget challenges brought on by the $5.4 billion in cuts made to public school funding at the state level," Mount said.<--- this is out of the above article... So did Humble ISD come into some kind of wind fall? Was this sign budgeted before the cuts in 2011?

I'm sure the video screen will be used at graduation.  Kind of like the Thomas Educational Facility in Beaumont.

I get the sarcasm, and love it, but BISD Graduations were at Montagne Center at Lamar.

No matter, both are "educational" facilities.

Humble is not paying for the video screen. This is a quote from the first link "The 960 square foot video board, paid for by the Junior Olympics". The fact that Humble is facing a budget shortfall has nothing to do with this scoreboard.

Carthage is installing a 45' x 58' (2,610-sf) jumbotron this summer which will dwarf Humble's 961-sf screen

They are covering the stands with awnings too? Why don't they just build a dome!
Or better yet just buy the Astrodome...  ::)

The entire scoreboard is 45' by 58' the screen is only 26' by 44'(1,144sq ft) which is still bigger than Humble's but definitely does not "dwarf" Humble's.

GCMpats, can you please run that 'sarcastic' remark by me again?  Was that an attempt at a funny?

Mr. Um1, you love it, right?  Really?

I guess you're partly correct. As a high school teacher (and a huge supporter of high school athletics),  I must admit that every time I pass by that stadium, I do get a good laugh.

Come on Blue Bell....  We need a donation!
I doubt it... Dayton don't have one either... And ours is new after IKE came through..... Maybe you should tell the Blue Bell Delivery guy to stop eating all the Blue Bell.... ;)

Our scoreboard was just redone like 2 years ago, but still no video.

Good catch. I scanned the article and never saw a price.
Do you laugh at the Great Storied athletics in the city of Baytown?  How did they stack up agains anything that BISD put out?  What happened the last time a Baytown School played a Beaumont school?  Now THAT makes me laugh....  very hard indeed.

When you say Baytown's storied athletic history, you have to go back to the 50's and 60's.  In those days, the Beaumont/PA/Orange area could only compete w/ Pt Arthur Thomas Jefferson.  Everyone else in that area were doormats in just about all sports.  Dan Stallworth(Baytown Lee) started the multiple(more than 3) coaching staff in football.  He made everyone else have to catch up.

It's a complete waste of money in a time when nobody has any.  But, I'm sure that every school will now try and outdo each other, despite the cost.
