2012 Hardin Hornets Team Preview

[size=12pt]With the loss of key components to the Hardin passing game to graduation, the 2011 Hornets found the sledding quite tough.  With Larry Haynes opting to retire, Hardin has turned to Livingston offensive assistant Walter Fortune to lead the Hornets, who will bring the Slot T with him.  Sixteen returning starters will look to make that transition

[size=14pt][b][u]2012 Offense[/u][/b][/size]

[size=12pt][b]Offense: Slot-T[/b]

There will be big change in the offense as the aerial based spread will give way to the ground based Slot-T.  The triggerman for the new offense will be junior Kyle Bertling, but he will be pushed by sophomore Isaiah Pradia.  Carrying the load in the running game will be senior Justen Ogden (33 carries, 98 yards in 2011) and junior backs Brandon Calhoun and Alan Mata.  Senior wingback Dylan Williams (2nd team all district in 2011, 22 catches, 536 yards, 4 TD), senior tight end Brandon Anderson (3 catches, 58 yards) and Pradia will provide the weapons when the Hornets take to the air.  An experienced line which will feature senior tackle Dusten Collins, senior center Brody Taylor and senior guards Sam Holloway and John Berry will be reinforced by sophomore tackles Corey Mettlen and Josh Leader and sophomore guard Zach Walters.

There will also be change on defense as Hardin switches to the 4-2-5 set with 9 returning starters.  Up front, Anderson will be joined by fellow senior Carson Farmer and sophomores Walters and Leader.  The linebacker corp will be manned at times by senior inside backer James King, sophomore inside backer Zane Drake, senior outside backer Dennis Hill and junior outside backer Ta'Roy Delahoussaye.  Williams and junior corners Jameson Estep, Kai Cormier and Deon'dre Flores will lead the Hornet secondary.

Hardin will start the season by hosting Hull-Daisetta on August 31st.  Kountze will visit on September 28th in the Hornets first 10-2A-I game of the season.  The Hornets close the 2012 regular and district season with a trip to Winnie to take on East Chambers.

Going good,  Learning a new Offense and a new Defense, but lots of energy, and I think they will be better then last years team.  Really like the new Coach, these boys are really being taught and are eager to learn the new system.  Running back looks good, some size on the line too.
