However, the Falcons added a stout defense which allowed the Falcons to post a 9-3 record and again advance to the 3A playoffs. Among those starters returning will be senior quarterback Preston Townley (1st team all district, 230-378, 2671 yd, 29 TD in 2011). Returning to join him will be junior running back and receiving threat Darion Gray (1st team all district, 98 carries, 569 yds, 8 TD rushing, 69 catches, 470 yards, 2 TD receiving). Also figuring into the Falcon passing game will be junior Cole Harrell (37 catches, 548 yd, 3 TD in 2011) and sophomore Chase Harrell (2 catches, 19 yards in limited play). Protecting them will be a senior dominated line that will be led by senior left tackle Drew Walls (1st team all district in 2011), senior right tackle Zach Woodland and senior center Cody Carver.[size=14pt][b][u]2012 Defense[/u][/b][/size][size=12pt][b]Defense: 4-3Returning starters: 6[/b]The Huffman defense returns six starters from the 2010 unit. Leading the way for the defense will be senior linebacker Austin Williams (1st team all district, 70 tackles, 13 for losses, 6 fumble recoveries in 2011). He will be backing a defensive line which will feature seniors Blake Jones (25 tackles, 10 for loss, 3.5 sacks in 2011) and Tyler Ballard (52 tackles, 12 for loss), as well as junior Shane Lummus. Chase and Cole Harrell (2nd team all district in 2011), as well as junior Clay Barnes (48 tackles, 1 int in 2011) will anchor the Falcon secondary.[size=14pt][b][u]2012 Special Teams[/u][/b][/size]Junior Cannon Cotter, a 2nd team all district pick in 2011, will handle the place kicking for Huffman in 2012. Williams, an all state punter in 2011, will again handle those duties.[size=14pt][b][u]2012 Key games[/u][/b][/size]Huffman opens their season with a Thursday night affair at Delmar Stadium in Houston against Kashmere High on August 30th. The Falcons host Liberty on October 5th to begin district 22-3A play, followed by key games at Cleveland (Oct. 12) and Coldspring (Oct. 19).
