[size=12pt]The Bulldogs of La Porte have certainly enjoyed their tenure in 21-5A.  And in 2011, the Bulldogs ran through the district 5-0 to claim the 21-5A District crown.  Not satsified with that, Jeff LaReau's young men set out on a deep run in the Class 5A, Division II playoffs, including a 9-6 win over #1 ranked Katy, all the way to the regional finals.  In 2012, the Bulldogs have loaded up for a run toward a state crown.  Seventeen returning starters will lead them on that trek.

[size=14pt][b][u]2012 Offense[/u][/b][/size]

[size=12pt][b]Offense: Wing-T
Returning starters: 10[/b]

The ten returning starters will be running out of the Wing-T, switching from the multiple I of 2011.  And running is something that the Bulldogs look to do a lot of again in 2012.  Leading the way will be senior all district running back Keith Whitely (273 carries, 1,500 yds, 15 TD in 2011).  But he certainly won't be the only weapon out of the backfield as junior running back Jonathan Lewis (102 carries, 603 yd, 7 TD) and junior wingback Taejon Wearan (2nd team all district, 69 carries, 500 yards, 3 TD) look to add some added punch.  Senior wide receiver Jahvey Mark (8 catches, 85 yd) will figure in the La Porte passing game.  And protecting these playmakers will be a Bulldog line that returns all 5 starters, senior center Justin King, senior guards Tony Briones (1st team all district) and Joey Garcia, senior tackle Maurice Morris (1st team all district) and junior tackle Mike Leagan.

Returning starters: 7[/b]

La Porte will return seven starters from the 2011 squad.  The Bulldogs have a strong leader in junior linebacker Hoza Scott (1st team all district).  He will be supporting line that will feature senior nose tackle Corey Lee (1st team all district) and senior ends Alex Jones (1st team all district) and Mark Guzman (2nd team all district).  La Porte also returns a veteran secondary which will include senior cornerbacks Ellis Hutchinson ( 4 interceptions in 2011)and Malik Graves (2nd team all district, 4 interceptions in 2011), as well as junior safety Vic Holmes (2 interceptions in 2011).


[size=14pt][b][u]2012 Special Teams[/u][/b][/size]

Senior Eric Medina, a 1st team all district pick who booted a school record 12 field goals (including a school record 55 yarder) in 2011 will return to handle both place kicking and punting duties.  Whitely, also a 1st team all district pick as a kick returner, will return kicks along with sophomores Britt Grant and David Terrebonne.


[size=14pt][b][u]2012 Key games[/u][/b][/size]

La Porte will open the 2012 season by hosting Clear Brook on August 31st.  Baytown Sterling come to town in the Bulldogs' first district 21-5A contest on September 28th.  Back on the district schedule is next door neighbor and long time rival Deer Park, who visits on October 19th.  The Bulldogs will finish the regular season in a Class 5A, DII regional final rematch in Port Arthur against Memorial.
