I must have struck a nerve with you to get two re posts out of that! :'( Who cares if your a "setx pollster", you cant even get your facts right, Vidor went to the playoffs two out of the last three years.  And let me make it clear since you cant understand what im talking about, I am not referring to the poll, I am referring to you degrading Vidor for no reason other than to make yourself feel better. And im sure with your unbiased polling that Vidor would be at the top of your poll....we know better than that :) :)

When you've made the playoffs about 5 times in 85 years, only made it past the first round twice and won their first playoff game since John F. Kennedy was the president then it is hard for some people to think otherwise.

There are many storied programs around SE Texas but Vidor's usual story is a [b]perennial loser [/b] or another hard luck year.

Thats the problem this is not the Vidor football of years ago, but some people wont move on. Let me ask you this, what good does it do to get on here and call a bunch of kids perinnial losers and bring up the past when theses kids are trying to blaze a new path?.......none! I guess some people feel better when they beat an already dead horse by bringing up the past and dwell on it. These kids have to start somewhere and I just dont understand why they should be degraded from a past that none of them has really known. Just my opinion!

Yeah, I agree with forgetting the past. Nederland did not beat PNG for like 19 years in the 60's and 70's. I would like to completely forget about that.

I want to start history at about the 1993 season. Nederland leads Mid-County Madness in the all time records 13-6.

sounds like dawgbacker needs to change their screen name to pirate apologist...no need to get your drawers all bunched up...this is all in good fun and no one is unneccesarily degrading vidor...no one seems to recall the inordinate amount of smack that vidor talked towards Nederland last year (and I am sure this year will be more of the same).

Look, vidor is going to be good this year and make a run at the DC, IMO...these polls mean very little if you ask me and do nothing but provide some good message board fodder for those of us who are ready for football but have nothing else to talk about yet since the games are not here yet...if you are laying awake at night worried or feeling slighted about why your team isn't "ranked" then I can't help you.

What tvc did was offer insight as to why Vidor might not be in a state wide poll, and if I might say so, a pretty accurate insight (although Vidor's last playoff win before last season was in the Johnson administration, not Kennedy).  Rightly or wrongly, the guys in the state polls especially those whose organizations do not have a real presence in either the Houston area or the Triangle, look at a team's history.  And in the case of Vidor, they are a team that has had. outside of the last few years, mostly a record of futility.  It is very similar to the situation that the Nederland basketball team faced last year as they failed to crack the TABC poll during the season despite their success.

The success of the Pirates over the last few years is something that has been celebrated by this board as a whole and tvc specifically.  It was a thrill to be part of the broadcast team that called their victory over Montgomery last year and as I currently have family members that are employed specifically by the Vidor ISD athletic department, I have reason to wish for their continued success.  But outside of our small little area of the state, two playoff wins in three years after a playoff drought of 8 years and one of 23 years before that is what is on paper and for most of these folks paper is all that they see.

It is not an attempt at bashing, it is laying out fact in giving an explanation to some folks, who even though they have by history on this board a RABID loyalty to Vidor, evidently had a lot less problem with tvc's explanation than you did, as to why the Pirates are not in preseason polls.  If you find that degrading, perhaps an order of an extra layer of skin is in order, because your current set is a bit too thin.

The perdictions in the magazines are all over the place. You pick up your July edition of Vype yet?? At the end of the season some of these "pollsters" should rethink their profession.

Only difference between Vype and the others is that their monthly magazine is free. You're not paying to get their opinion.

Just one clarification, the district previews were all done by local writers and the state rankings reflect those previews.  David Coleman who works for the Port Arthur newspaper wrote the 20-4A preview.

[/quote]I belive we got that streak started in 88..But I could be wrong because after Coach Deroun  Nederland high school got Coach August and they may not have won that next year....Speaking of a bad runs...That year Nederland made the playoffs for the first time in 24 years...We went to CE King and Mcfarland had 7 picks 2 for TDs ...24years later still making the playoffs...And some of the old players still making the news ;)

This is Nederland's all time playoff appearance record.  Missed 7 years since 88'.  still impressive Nederland is ranked 12th in appearances in 4A until Lamarque and Yates drop to 3A.

Yeah, August never made the playoffs.  I played for him for 2 years unfortunely.  We payed CE King back a couple of times for '88 though.

In defense of the Nederland basketball program, we have now won district three straight years now with 4 starters returning. History would suggest that normally, but Nederland basketball is no longer a joke. Having said that, I would not be surprised if the Ned basketball team is not ranked in the preseason top 25.
