AggiesAreWe Posted August 15, 2012 Report Posted August 15, 2012
Concerning the second stringers comments...WO-S does have second and third string teams. Having 30 or less players doesn't change that. They have some players not in silver helmets who will be evaluated on the varsity level. Plus, they have players who will play in positions they normally do not play in order to grade them, as well. To the coaches for both teams, this is all about grading their teams progress and individual players. Nothing more, nothing less. I know for a fact that is true for Coach Thompson. No game planning or Friday night strategy will be involved. Therefore, any "score" will not matter at all. A few comments on here make too big of a deal about this scrimmage. When I think of scrimmages, I'm reminded of the 2000 season when Lumberton got the better of WO-S in the first scrimmage of the year. It was a wake up call for the Mustangs. If the two teams had played in the regular season, WO-S would have manhandled the Raiders. But the scrimmage did what it is supposed to. It motivated the players and helped the coaches evaluate the team's progress and what needed to improve.
Excellent post, griff. As for the "couple of comments", I believe both have come from a "Coopish" Mustang fan. ;)
Razor Posted August 15, 2012 Report Posted August 15, 2012 Griff, you make another key point in that there is no game planning for these scrimmages as well
speveto Posted August 15, 2012 Report Posted August 15, 2012
What if neither 1st string teams score? And Nederlands 2nds scores twice to WOS 0, does that mean Nederland "wins" the scrimmage???
There is "NO WAY" that`s going to happen. I`m telling you, WOS is going to win this game, no doubt about it.

skipper Posted August 15, 2012 Report Posted August 15, 2012 hope it dont rain ;D no matter its going to be fun to watch may i ask where this will take place
cooligan Posted August 15, 2012 Report Posted August 15, 2012 Apparently, we still have some loyal WOS fans that are a little PO after last years loss to NED. Anybody coming into a scrimmage who's worried about the score or win, by your terms, doesn't know much about football. I could see a team that was 0-10 last year might be more concerned about the score for confidence reasons, but that is as far as I will go. Hey AAW, I guess we all understand Coop's logic now. When a team doesn't have 2nd stringers I can see how they always have 25 - 30 starters returning every year. Go figure. ;D

Mr. Buddy Garrity Posted August 15, 2012 Report Posted August 15, 2012 wonder if there will be any random "lateral fumbles" in this scrimmage?
biaplayer Posted August 15, 2012 Report Posted August 15, 2012 So where is this oh so important scrimmage I would love go keep score and do some well needed scouting on our future matchups?

jkbtjc53 Posted August 15, 2012 Author Report Posted August 15, 2012 I was a 3 year starter for WO-S and played college football but I'm the person on this board that doesn't know what I'm talking about?? Ok.. And Vidor wasn't up big against WO-S they were up by 14 and WOS came back and beat them with their starters in the game, Also regarding bitter fans because Nderland finally beat WOS, that isn't the cas at all Nederland beat WOS fair and square no excuss to be mad, BUT any mustang fan will tell you, that Nederland caught us befor Coach T finally switched the offense back to mainly the spread offens, same can be said about the Vidor game, WOS came out throwing the 2nd half and Vidor couldn't run with us..
griff Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012
Its a scrimmage, get a grip! LOL.
Thanks, bigdog. Both teams need the measuring stick that this SCRIMMAGE will provide.Let's all just enjoy Friday night, then look forward to next week's SCRIMMAGE, and finally get hyped for the start of the season in week zero. This is a sane path for everyone.
football04 Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 I hope the coaches will agree to play 2qts of game situation, but alot of the time they stick to just a controlled scrimmage.
