diego cruz Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 i heard that one of nederlands returning starters is considering not playing basketball because several division 1 colleges are offering him a track scholarship for the high jump?
CThoops Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 He does have a good future at high jump, no question there.. But this would be his last year ever to play basketball.. I dont think he would give up on his team and best friends after the years they went through.. He played last year and did track, and didnt get injured, so I say he should be good to go ;)
CThoops Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 He is referring to Jared Lormier, an all-district player from the past season

D1 full ride sounds pretty sweet.
BLUEDOVE3 Posted August 18, 2012 Report Posted August 18, 2012 Depending on the contract, legally binding so maybe it wont make a difference - depending on what's being offered.
Honest Abe Posted August 18, 2012 Author Report Posted August 18, 2012 I think he will still play. I heard he was a bit burned out. He attended the Duke basketball camp this summer, and I was told he played really well. Definitely a huge asset to the team, as he was the only kid to register on the dunk-o-meter last season and by far has the best MRJS on the team. Both qualities that Soulja hold close to his heart. 8)We definitely need his athleticism on the court.
mytwocents-28 Posted August 18, 2012 Report Posted August 18, 2012 I'm gonna laugh and call all of yall out when Vidor runs through district and gets that DC.Disclaimer: No I, mytwocents, is not claiming that Vidor will win DC or will even make the playoffs. Therefore saving myself from living on crow in basketball season.

I'm VERY interested to see the Nederland kid with the SMRJ. 8)

Difference is he can high jump 6'10". Very smooth release and great form.
BunaBaller14 Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 LCM could challenge for the 4th playoff spot. They have a contender for newcomer of the year in Trumaine Elmore. He averaged 18 and 11 on JV. He's a 6'2 shooting guard in the Kristian Smith build.

Since there is no clear favorite for the 4th spot, Vidor could surprise us all. If I recall, Vidor was young last year, no? In addition, it was Larry's 1st season as HC. The Pirates should be more competitive for sure. I still think it will be between Livingston and PNG, but it's truly up for grabs.

BLUEDOVE3 Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 And Nederland would still have bragging rights finishing4th, because of the watered down playoff system. 8)
stevenash Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 Dove- did the playoff system become watered down when they added the fourth, third, or second team?

Finishing 4th this year would be a huge disappointment for the Dawgs (and it ain't gonna happen)! 8)

But you made Silver because its where all the losers go from LOSING in bracket play, and you weren't go enough to play in Platinum Bracket. Silver and third spot is still a losers bracket.

BLUEDOVE3 Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 Well at least you're not a consolation winner
BEARCAT Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 There seems to be a consensus that Ned., Ozen, and Central will be the top 3 teams (none in my opinion will go undefeated in dist.). The 4th spot, and a shot at the playoffs, may not be so clear. Other than Collins who is a great athlete who else does Livingston have? Do they have any size coming back? Just curious. A young LCM and an improving Vidor may have a shot at the 4th spot. A taste of playoffs, even if short lived, gives young teams experience and confidence.

Much like the district last year with HF& WO-S, it will be interesting to see who gets the final playoff spot. Livingston possibly could play a dual role this year. Being the dark horse and the spoiler in this district. They could get that 4th spot and at the same time apply pressure on Nederland and Central fighting for the 2nd and 3rd spots.
Honest Abe Posted August 24, 2012 Author Report Posted August 24, 2012 One thing for sure, it is NOT easy to win in the Lion's Den. Ozen was defeated by 9 last year, but easily beat them in Beaumont.Excluding last year, Nederland has fought tooth and nail to leave Livingston with a 'W'. I remember 2011 when the Dawgs went undefeated in district, their toughest game was AT Livingston. We only won by 1 or 2, then beat them at home by 15+. Same happened in 2009 & 2010. With that said, I think it gives them the slight advantage at the 4th spot. But I agree Bearcat, the final spot is wide open.
