robanadana Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 OK, had some bad luck Friday...house broken into. OC Sheriff department is on the case. Anyway, because of this I miss the Pirate scrimmage Friday. So, I do something I normally don't do and invest $1 in the Beaumont piece of crud newspaper on Saturday morning, turn to the sports section and there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about any of the scrimmages in the paper. I'm sorry, but the biggest sporting event in this area is high school football and you have nothing? Last dollar I waste. I'll buy the Vidorian from now on....
Jackthehammer Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 I dont buy the Beaumont Surprise either for the lack of local sports coverage.
mfd814 Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 Agreed, I watched the news Fri night, one channel showed 4 scrimmages, 1 channel showed only 1 scrimmage.
AggiesAreWe Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 I cannot remember any paper doing reports from any scrimmages. I don't see what the big deal is, just scrimmages.
liltex Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 Internet advertizing $$ is puttin the $ hurt strain on alot of newspapers.Bad economy adds fuel to the fire. You should see the Baytown Sun all 4 pages of it.BOT hope they catch/prosicute the thugs that broke in.Theft is on the rise everywhere & most times they get probation.Been there in your shoes & judge ordered no restitution.
Guest kountzemania Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 Most media services have to staff up to cover football because it so exspanaive and difficult to cover right. These usually have not budgeted to cover until week zero. In addition, what drives ability for coverage is ad sales and for news papers, paid currculation as well. Very hard to justify the cost of covering scrimmage schedule and trying to cover half assed is worse than not covering. TV just uses scrimmages to practice unseasoned cam/reporters so they are not throw to the dogs in a couple of weeks.
BMTSoulja1 Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 I wouldn't put great stock at all in the Beaumont 'Suprise' whatsoever. They only cater to MC athletics most of the time.
eknights88 Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 I just saw mike dikta give robandana a "C'mon man "scrimmages really.
liltex Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 Eknights 88 how does 2011 18-5a dist champ team look for 2012 after losing 41 lettermen?See Chron article online today.Play Dayton there in 2 weeks 8)
panther blue Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 True that , BMTSoulja1. beaumont 'suprise' sports writers are apparently not from beaumont. you get better high school sports coverage from the orange leader or port arthur news.
BBfan061 Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 The Silsbee Bee is our best source for our local sports in hardin county

baddog Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 Funny, I started taking the PA News because I felt the "Surprise" was snubbing us. Even called them and told them so.

Most Beaumont people could realy care less. Most of the stuff in the suprise isn't worth reading sportswise.
liltex Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 Suprize needs to start selling life ins to help defray costs printing obituary column ;D ;D
Cheermom4 Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 The PA News covered the Nederland Scrimmage. I only know because I saw a picture of the front page of it. The sports section isn't really my section unless my hubby tells me to read something.
puddin tane Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 Enterprise has been toilet paper fo years............
BMTSoulja1 Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 The horrible sports coverage (mainly Beaumont teams) from the Beaumont Suprise is one of the main reason I signed up on this website many years ago.

Be good to see you, especially if you wear that shirt. ;D
BMTSoulja1 Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 I don't know. I'm not crazy about traveling to see a scrimmage. Besides, I have a friend that invited me to the West Brook/Lufkin Scrimmage on the same day.
