Guest JoesBros Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 October 5, 2006 was a day that Jeff Bagwell, Drayton Mclane, and every Houston Astros fan knew was coming. But, still in this Astros fan eye's it was a bittersweet day. I finally got to experience what it feels like when a true legand for a team you root for and followed all your life has anounced his retirement. I know it was too painful for Bags to play anymore but, for the 15 plus years I was able to watch him play it was a true joy. Ill never forget that one night in September of 1998 when everyone was watching Mark McGuire break the Home Run record, I was at home watching the Astros blow out the Reds and Jeff Bagwell hit his very first grand slam. September 25 will be a date that will always live with me as an Houston Astros fan as well. 11 years to the date when Mike Scott pitched his no hitter against the Giants to clinch the Western Division title, I finally got see Bagwell hold Biggio up in his arms clinching their first Central Divison title on the same Astrodome turf. Houston Astros fans have been real lucky to watch Bagwell as well as Biggio play all of these years and turn into real icons. 1991 NL Rookie of the year. 1994 NL MVP, 449 Career Home Runs (Astros Record), 1529 RBI's are just a few accomplisments he had. Not to mention one of the smartest players running the base pads ive ever seen. The number 5 in Houston baseball will never be worn again. I thank you Jeff Bagwell for all of the memories you've given me as an Astros fan and I am proud I will get to tell my son when he gets older that I had the oppertunity to watch one of the greatest first basemen and Astros of all time. Here's a video tribute I found of Baggy. Enjoy
