Guest JoesBros Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 I kinda got this idea from the Houston Chronicle asking people how people and baseball has linked them with their family. I know that there are alot of Astros fans here in southeasttexas. So that let me to think what does it mean to you to be a Astros fan. All thoughts and memories are welcomed. Ill start it off. Living in Port Neches all my life (until I got married) I grew up with my grandparents. My grandpa was a big Astros fan. I can remember being 6 years old and listening to Milo on the radio trying to make out the game on TV before we got HSE on cable. I think thats where my love of listening to baseball on the radio came. But, me and my grandpa use to watch all the games together and shake hands after the Astros won a game just because the players would do it. In his early years we gave Jeff Bagwell the nickname "Popeye" cause his forearms were so big. The first time I got to go to the Astrodome and watch a game when I was about 7 was with him. In 1997 when the Stros clinched their first divison title in 11 years and in 2005 when they won the National League Pennet for the first time to go to the World Series all I could think was "I wish my grandpa was here watching this with me now" since he passed on in 1994. I just hope I can pass the tradition of watching games and going to Minute Maid Park with my little boy one day.
