Same crap was going on at another DISD school when i was in HS. (Lincoln Tigers)Great move by the Supt. I wonder if the HISD Supt would ever pull a move like this ::)

stevenash Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Interesting news about Kimball. Looks like the big bosses are starting to examine things a little more closely. Hmmm- I wonder if this kind of activity is confined to Dallas only? My guess is that "recruiting" may drop off substantially in some other parts of the state or the same result will take place in more than Dallas. Perhaps " Build It And They Will Come" might be a less effective mantra in the future. What do you think, Dickie, Dove?
BLUEDOVE3 Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Dickie V too busy right now to respond ;) Go Yates!!!!

The Goat Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 Next up the Houston Area. You can probably bet your right arm on that. They are probably just as bad as the Dallas Area. Anyone remembers Gulf Shores High School ? Prime example.

Mr. Buddy Garrity Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 im clueless on the Gulf Shores thing, what happened with them? I remember Vidor used to play them in football all the time, thats the only thing i know about them.

However, it was suggested on this board (not sure from who) that these kids were going to Yates for academic purposes, bc it is a Magnet School. I think we all know they are transferring to play basketball. In HISD that is perfectly legal, but the playing field is clearly not even, IMO. A way to compete (in our area) would Be to allow any kid to transfer to any school and remain living in their current home. For example, a kid can remain living in Pt. Arthur but chooses to attend WOS to play a sport, but claim he is doing it bc they have a magnet school for journalism, when everyone knows he wants to play that sport for them. HISD is at an athletic advantage since they can choose the school of their choice. I don't believe that is why the magnet school status (of Yates or any other magnet school) was originally formed. It was for academic purposes only, not athletic.
BLUEDOVE3 Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 Then you would also agree that schools with open enrollment have an advantage too, as well as Magnet Schools. If memory serves me correctly, magnet schools were initially brought about to help with integration.

Not many students who have to pay tuition at a public school make that move so the answer is no, it does not compare to the magnet school situation.

Maybe in the smaller towns like Beaumont, it was started for a different reason.
