Razor Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 Interesting take 2011....they are mighty good and I don't feel that it's a stretch to say that they are as good of a front (dline and linebackers) as any in the state for class 4A...great combination of size, athleticism, and technique from this group
dawgnut Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 One of the Vidor fans ask the question in one of these threads what made our defense so much better than last years version that was very good. There are several changes that have made it better and I think this conversation on putting 8 in the box and Vidor being able to pass on that formation is just one example. With the addition of #10 at safety we not only get great pass defense, but this kid has great run support. He will come up and hit you in a heart beat. Many safeties today just want to take you down with an arm tackle, don't expect that kind of treatment from this guy. Just one change from last year, but a big one.
Razor Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 Dawgnut, that's one good reason right there...last years defense for Nederland was outstanding, but I do believe that this years is better...most of last year's defense is back with another off season of work and another year of experience to make them better....also, I feel like we will be better than what Vidor saw last year in particular because Stampley and Taylor will both be playing....they both missed last years game and they are both impact players without a doubt....Washington adds another element to this D as well...that kid has the potential to be special with his size, speed, and quickness
dawgnut Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 You are right about Stampley and Taylor, they are both good on run support and pass coverage. If Washington continues to work, he could be one of the top prospects in this area. One of the other things you can't put a statistic on is that this team just works well together. When a mistake is made, no finger pointing, just renewed effort.
ATWILDCAT Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012
Interesting take 2011....they are mighty good and I don't feel that it's a stretch to say that they are as good of a front (dline and linebackers) as any in the state for class 4A...great combination of size, athleticism, and technique from this group
I agree with that. Nederland's front 4 is impressive. Angleton rushed for about 275 yards and averaged about 7 yards a carry, but those were hard fought yards. Our Oline had their hands full and thought they did a good job creating holes for the backs against that front. Vidor's oline will have to play their "you know what" off against Nederland's d.
phunter308 Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 As a Dad of one of the front 4 on Nederlands D-line Thanks, They are a hard working group that hates to lose. I have to give credit to Angletons O-Line they were big and physical. I think the game helped the Dogs a lot because the Cats are very fast and athletic which taught the Dogs what it will take to play at that level. I know that we lost #55 in the early second quarter which hurt us some but the other picked up the slack and gave their all. Nederland came home and has 2 weeks to heal up and get ready for the other Black and Gold team from 20-4a. As for who is Nederlands top players, there is 43 of them listed on roster. GO DOGS!!!!

As long as your defensive backs remember their number one priority, Ned can still stack the box. Last year [glow=red,2,300]Vidor released the TE and Montana put it right on the money without a DB in sight.[/glow] As long as Spell preaches that this week, the Dogs shouldn't get burned. Quirante can put it on the money though so they better remember the pass. I'm sure that is going to be a focus of this week. I believe that's the only way Vidor beats Nederland, by catching them off guard. I just think Ned has too much size and speed defensively to be overpowered by the run.
Jam the crap out of him off the line...That should take care of the T.E..And let Stampley & Woods run back the pick 6 ;)
Good luck with that. Our tight end is 6'4 and pushing 235. You may be able to jam him up a little bit but he is gonna get where he wants to go. May i add he also starts as our DE so he knows how to be aggressive as well. 8)

phunter308 Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 # 84 will need to work on that getting off the line a little better if that is who you are talking about mytwocents. He is tall but Angleton had that in # 9 and he was big tall and fast. #3 bothers me more he is sneaky. If our front four can control ya'lls front 6 then we have the players like Stampley ,Woods,Saye,Kimler Taylor and Barrows who will hit you in a blink of an eye. Remember to Stampley and Taylor did not play against ya'll last year. Stamp is 6'1" 220 like QM.

You have obviously not seen him. He is the fastest TE i have seen in a while. And i'm not worried about Stampley and Taylor. We can handle them just fine. Question for your offense if you get past our front four then you have Quirante, Godeaux, Cooper, Whitmire, Rodriguez, and Thomas to get by and that is no easy task to do buddy. And we also have players that you didn't see last year. One being a sophomore that is 6'3" 245.

phunter308 Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 Seen him and have the last 4 games he played in right here in front of me. Yes he does need some work on getting out of traffic. Vidor is a solid defense that is for sure but they have not played a team that trows the ball regularly. It will be their first test. This will not be out first test aginst a running team by far.

BC had 15 passes against us. CB had 10 passes against us. To say that we haven't played a team that passes regularly is pretty silly.

If Vidor has a better defense than Angleton, I would be completely shocked...
