1a. Montgomery- The Bears started slow in the first half (partly due to weather conditions) against a good Huntsville squad, but pulled away in the second half. The Hornets keyed on Dedrick and the run game, but Josh was able to open up the passing game and get yards through the air. Defense made some key stops even though they gave up a couple big plays. Good win over a good team.

1b. Brenham- The Cubs continued their domination of Mag West, though not quite in the same blowout fashion as past years. Cubs defense held West to 7 and the offense and special teams showed enough life to earn themselves a tie for first. Once again it seems the road to the district championship will go through the Montgomery-Brenham game.

3. Huntsville- Hornets showed they're a good, athletic team and put a good fight against the Bears. They have some good athletes and should be on their way to a playoff berth. Their matchup against Mag West should be a good one and probably will decide 3rd place.

4. Magnolia West- The Mustangs' struggles against Brenham continued, but they played a respectable game and still seem to be a step ahead of the rest of the pack. They come to Montgomery in a couple weeks and The Bears are still bitter about last year's upset.

5. Willis- The Wildkats got into the win column, and finally  got on the scoreboard! They open up a district play with a win over Caney Creek and find themselves back in the revolving door that is 5th spot in the rankings.

6. Waller- They haven't played a district game yet but they won this week against a new Tomball Memorial squad. We'll see if the Bulldogs can ride this momentum into district play.

7. Bryan Rudder- Rudder starts off district with an upset over Magnolia which allows them to move up in the rankings. They capitalized on mistakes and that's the type of play that wins you games.

8. Magnolia- Bulldogs got off to a rough start and it will be an uphill battle to get into contention. Is this the same old Magnolia? Time will tell.

9. Caney Creek- The Panthers find themselves back in the basement. It should be interesting to see how they compete with Rudder and Magnolia.

Nice job.  I don't see much difference between 5-9.  The top 4 should be the playoff teams.  I think Huntsville will beat Mag West for 3rd even though it is played in Magnolia.  Montgomery-Brenham decides 1st but they would be in different playoff brackets anyway.

1. Brenham- IMO, the Cubs belong at the top after last week.  Brenham beat MW who DCTF had beating the Cubs.  Not only did Brenham win but they absolutely dominated!  The Mustangs only scored 1 TD and it was on a punt return.  The "Green Machine" held MW to 36yds on the game.  It was Darrion Johnson's first game and he mad a huge impact....  This team is starting to come together and just in time!  This week we travel to Waller to meet up with one of our biggest rivals, in the "Battle of the Brazos".  Can't wait to walk into the dog pound, hear the boo's and get some chic-fil-a.  Go Cubs!

2. Montgomery- I hate bouncing back & forth between Brenham & Montgomery, but just like I placed the Bears ahead of the Cubs last week, I had to switch it back after week 2's games.  This could change several more times during the season so who knows.  There is one thing I'm certain about, when it comes to these 2 teams....  18-4A will be decided when Brenham heads down 105 to play Montgomery!

3. Huntsville- After playing Montgomery fairly close, they slide in at #3.  Not quite as good as the district's 2 best teams, they arn't somebody you wanna take lightly.  Their offense is still finding itself, but the Hornet defense looks good.  They are fast and swarm to the ball well, easily making them Huntsville's strength.

4. Magnolia West- MW seems to be renting this 4th spot with the option to buy.  With some improvements on offense, the spot is theirs.  Now if that offense doesn't improve, they could be on the outside looking in.  It's your spot to lose, so fight for it if you guys want it.

5. Waller- The "Dog Pound" should be a great atmosphere this week when the Cubs roll in to town.  Waller hasn't played a district game yet, so this could give them a great boost.  It's an away game and the fair is going on this weekend in Brenham too, so their won't be as much green in the stands, as usual.  Waller was the last district game Brenham lost, back in the 2009 upset. (it was also the first time Brenham came to new stadium) Anything can happen in a rivalry game.....

6. Willis- The Wildkats started district play with the easiest team in 18-4A, and got the win.  Their games only get harder now, so I dont think they will be in playoff race.

7. Rudder- This team might be a little underrated, but they will have a chance to prove themselves.  It's early in the season, and district play just started.  They do have their work cut out for them.

8. Magnolia- I'm not sure if they are as good we thought.  The loss to Rudder might really hurt them this year.

9. Caney Creek- The Panthers are still the cellar dweller this year, and the new coach is lucky that the district is down as much as it is, or this could be even worse.

Very un-Waller like, but ya they do.  They went all out on that stadium!

I was glad to see the Montgomery passing offense got going this week. Josh was on the money with his deep throws. He had a 72 yard TD to Bodhi (whose knee is apparently fine since he dusted Huntsville's CB) but it was called back for "holding". They weren't able to throw very well in the first half due to weather conditions, but it got going in the second half. That combined with the Dedrick/Paul running combo proved too much. The Bear defense was outstanding. Only gave up a couple big plays in the first half, but was lockdown second half. They stuffed them on 3rd and 4th and inches multiple times. Looks like it'll be Montgomery with the #1 O and #2 D and Brenham with the #1 D and #2 O. It may be a down year for both programs, but it's still the same old Montgomery and Brenham.
