This is exactly why Vidor did not even get a vote.  Even if Vidor was one of the ten best teams in the state, how would you expect the Vidors to find them in the slew of 4a teams after just a few weeks.  If Vidor beats Nederland next week, I would not expect Vidor to get more than a couple of votes.  And that is how it would be for any program with Vidor's history.  To think otherwise is just evidence of a martyr complex.  ;)

I'm not saying it doesn't happen.  I'm saying 4 teams is too many.  Ya, a 4th place team wins occasionally, but more often than not, it won't happen that way.  Teams that dont atleast finish in the top 2 shouldn't be in the playoffs.  I like that it's more football, but it takes away from the teams that finish 1 or 2 in district.  BTW, the Coogs didn't win.  You remember all the TD's LaMarque gave up too? Also, how they lost by 3 TD's.  Not trying to pick on LaMarque, cuz they are a great program.  Just explaining my point.

I have to disagree with you on this one, BF. There are twice as many schools and twice as many kids in school today as in my day, 1976. Back then, there were 4 or 5 teams per district, tops and no real megaschools like today. Perhaps we should make a 6A like some states. 4A has way too many schools with too much disparity of attendance for it. Polls don't mean anything on the field.  They are fun for the fans to discuss and that is about it.
Two years ago Coldspring didn't break into the top 10 until there were less than 10 teams left playing.  Even when the went to the Championship game they were ranked like 5th.  5th out of 2 teams is hard to do.  Now all of a sudden we start the year 2nd.  It is based too much on the past, and not on actual facts.  Most of the people voting have never seen most of the teams play.  How could they rank them acurately?  Heck most of the people voting couldn't find Coldspring on a map closer than to say it is in the woods of East Texas. 
Enjoy the polls for giving us something to brag or gripe about and cheer for your team on friday.  Next week the polls change.
