Imitation Bowl - Nederland at "Uniform Thieves", Who ya got?

A wise man once said that imitation is the highest form of flattery, so Nederland should feel real good about themselves as they head into next fridays match-up against the Pirates.  Not just because of the well known fact that Vidor stole their uniform scheme, but becuase of the other well known fact, they have a very good football team.  Vidor, doing their best Nederland impersonation, is also putting a good football team out on the field.  If Angleton prooved anything last friday, it's that you dont have to be multi-dimensional to have success against Nederland's Defense.  That is a good thing for Vidor, but the Pirates must ask themselves, Do we have the same type of athletes that Angelton has?  My guess is no, The original Black and Gold win this one going away... 28-14.  Throw your V's up... for victory that is.

Basically Vidors present uniforms are Home..black on black w/gold on the flag on the helmet. Away uniforms are basically white with the same gold on the helmet. So they are more just black and white than black and gold.

Sorry, Nederland has always been black and gold. Vidor was originally maroon and gold.

Nederland wore Pittsburgh Steelers style uniforms with an NB on black helmets. You can call it gold just like the Steelers do but it is actually yellow or also known as athletic gold. Metallic gold is what they wear now. I'm very aware of the history lol. Plus I have footage of those old uniforms on my desk.

Also Vidor was black and metallic gold as early as the mid-60's when my parents attended TJ. I've never heard of Vidor being maroon and gold. Then again UT wore yellow and white then maroon and gold at times before adopting orange (later burnt orange) and white so not saying it's impossible.

One only has to look at the current Beaumont Enterprise online sports section and go to the article "Nederland-Vidor showdown looms" and look at the 14 pictures posted of last years game.  The only similarity is the colors black and gold.  As far as posts stating Vidor was once maroon and gold, maybe when they wore leather helmets.  But I know for a fact that the pirates have been black and gold at least since 1958.  So for someone to say Vidor stole Nederlands uniforms is an absolute falsehood.  One could say the Bulldogs and Pirates stole their colors from the Colorado Buffaloes or any number of teams that wear that color.  My god, look at how many teams wear red and white or blue and white.  Just not enough colors to go around for each team top have their own colors, though the Seattle Seahawks have some original color schemes.  So put that in your crack pipe and smoke it.  As for the game, I think this is the year Vidor blows up.  Nederland got nothing for Montana Quirante and the Pirates win a hard fought squeaker in Vidor and both teams go very deep in the playoffs, but "THE Band of Bands, THE Mighty Pirate Marching Band" will blow that scrub bunch of hacks at Nederland clear off the field.  McDonald ain't there no more!  VHS Class of "74!!

Back in the 50's Vidor was purple and gold and then switched to black and old gold.  Just tellin like it is.
