shooter Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 I think so because the non-district schedule is not very tough and there is usually only one legitimate district challenger. I think this hurts the development of the team's mental toughness and this is needed to play schools like WOS & Carthage. Playing a tougher non-district schedule will payoff for the Dawgs.
Hupernikomen Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 Liberty typically has been a fairly good 3A team. Went like 14 straight years straight with a playoff berth. They should have been a playoff team this year. They would have been much, much better this year had they not lost their qb.Orangefield had beaten Jasper 2 out of last 3 attempts. They very well might challenge for the 3rd spot in their district.Kirbyville is not far removed from being about as good as any 3A team within 150 miles. I think they will surprise some people this year. They still have some talent. WO-S is always a great test. These aren't the days where we can schedule Lufkin, Kingwood, Forest Brook, Huntsville and Smiley to get us ready for District.Hopefully the new coach will add Silsbee back to the schedule and I wouldn't mind seeing them add a team like LCM or Central to their schedule. WO-S, Silsbee, Orangefield, LCM, Liberty That would be a good predistrict schedule. They were playing Gilmer, WO-S, Silsbee, Kirbyville and Newton...that wasn't working out so well for them. Can't say it improved their playoff runs much either.
jimmyw Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 Are you saying Newton, Kirbyville & Gilmer are weak. that would be kinda way off out there. Silsbee is a rivalry game for Jasper and Newton & Silsbee split the last two games with each other. Newton and Jasper has somewhat of a rivalry being 15 miles apart. Kirbyville is a rivalry game for Jasper also and I really question what is wrong with Gilmer unless it is travel distance. jmho
bluechip Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 Jasper will be fine. I see a very bright future for the Jasper football program. They are just getting started!

I think as many tough non-district games you can get is great, but I also think your team needs a few of the less challenging games to let them see what they can do and gain a bit of confidence, especially as the program changes hands and is being molded. Jasper should take nothing but confidence away from last nights loss, they scored on a team that 4A teams haven't scored on. They battled hard and minus the 2 big turnovers, were probably in a 3-0 game.
Guest incognito123 Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 Jasper will be fine. WOS is a high caliber opponent, and Jasper will learn a lot from playing themBarbay will get the scheduling junk worked out. Just give him time.

I am confident they will up their predistrict opponents as their level of play improves to the level we are used to seeing.
