Puma42 Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 Found this article on GigEmNation on ESPN.com, thought I'd share!LIVINGSTON, Texas -- If there's one thing that becomes abundantly clear when watching Orange (Texas) Little Cypress-Mauriceville running back Alex Sezer, it's that he has speed. Livingston (Texas) High School found that out first hand when it faced Sezer and the Bears on Friday in the two teams' first district game of the season. In the second quarter after his team came up with a big turnover, Sezer capitalized by breaking free for a 50-yard touchdown run. Once he got into the secondary, nobody was catching him. Despite a 42-35 loss to Livingston, Sezer put up a productive night for Little Cypress-Mauriceville. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound athlete ran for 131 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries in the defeat and visited with GigEmNation afterward. Sam Khan Jr./ESPN.comOrange (Texas) Little Cypress-Mauriceville athlete Alex Sezer will likely play cornerback for the Aggies.Sezer committed to the Aggies in June shortly after receiving a scholarship offer. He earned that offer by impressing the coaching staff with his speed in the 40-yard dash (4.4 seconds) at a satellite camp. Also a track star (he finished fifth in the state in Class 4A in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash as a junior), Sezer plans to graduate in December and join the Aggies in time for the spring semester. While he's a running back for the Bears, he's projected to play cornerback for the Aggies. Sam Khan Jr.: In addition to playing running back for LC-M, how much work do you get on defense? Alex Sezer:I started the first game both ways and then coach said he wanted to get people off the field. At corner, I didn't see any passes thrown my way, so he said it'd be beneficial to give me the ball. SK: Has that been beneficial to you on offense? AS: Yes sir. It's been crazy. I've had a real productive year so far. I've had like eight touchdowns in the last three games. SK: Why did you choose Texas A&M initially? AS: When I took my visit, the coaches, they didn't just tell me what I wanted to hear. They were straightforward guys and they seemed like guys I can work with for the next four-to-five years and they seemed really sincere about their jobs, like they're going to put the time in. So that impressed me, and so did the atmosphere. SK: Who recruited you the most? AS: Coach [Matt] Wallerstedt. He's a great guy, real funny. He called me the other night and woke me up. He said, 'I just want to let you know we were thinking about you.' It was kind of late, but that's the kind of guy he is. He checks in every now and then and make sure that I'm doing alL right. It shows that they care. SK: How has your season gone individually? AS: I need to get better. Always need to get better. I can't be satisfied because great athletes are never satisfied, or they don't get any better. I just need to get better. SK: What's your mentality about playing defense when you get to A&M? AS: You can't catch a pass on me (laughs). That's how it has to be at cornerback. You have to have that mindset. If you go in there thinking that 'I'm beat,' then you're beat. So you have to be confident but just not cocky. SK: What are your thoughts on what you've seen from A&M on the field this year? AS: They've been doing really well. The new, just the way the coach is handling things, I can tell a change is coming there so I want to be a part of that. SK: Have you scheduled your official visit? AS: I haven't scheduled it yet but I'm planning on it for [the] Missouri [game]. SK: Have you received any new offers? AS: A lot of track schools have been calling. Texas, Louisiana-Monroe, they've called this week. I'm just going to focus on football. Because I'm going in early, for classes, spring football, I just want to learn the system so if I can add something else, I'll do that. SK: You attended the Texas A&M-Florida game. How was that? AS: It was crazy. The fans, just everything about it was just amazing.
texasaggie Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 Really excited about his potential. He has great raw athleticism, and if it doesn't work out at CB, there is always room for speed on the offense.
