Roberts averages right at 20 carries per game and just over 12 yards/carry... might wanna get your numbers right before you talk out of your rear...  He is not the only weapon we have, but I hope you keep thinking that... I know your teams coach knows better.

rykerx your 100% correct. Coach Barbay cared about winning, because he hated losing, but he was more. Using the term "father figure" gets overused maybe now days, but Coach Barbay was just that. He would correct you, whip your tail when you got out of line, but expect you to stand up and be a man in life as well as in sports. He was gruff at times, but always had time to speak to you. I agree that you can't compare coaches to coaches as they are all different people. Newton was so blessed to have this man come to Newton and "try it for a year" as he told his wife in 1968. Thank goodness it lasted a little bit longer. EC folks, check out the black granite memorial with the football on top of it at the right of the main entrance to Singletary stadium/Barbay field. And I don't think anyone was trying to down play the coaching staffs of either team. But until they can match the records and accomplishments of Coach Barbay they will remain in his shadow IMO.

Im driving in from South Texas for this one. Sat through Refugio's butt whoopin' of Freer last week (my daughter is in the Freer band, dad had to be there) so I need to see some good football.

As for picking the game, my heart is 100% backing the Bucs but I'm going to pick Newton in a close one.

The reasons are:
1. Newton is undefeated vs 1 loss for EC
2. Newton seems to, overall, have handled common opponents a little easier.
3. Records against opponents they don't have in common don't tell me much, but I don't think HJ is good enough to say a loss to them by 6 or 7 is equall to big wins against Liberty and Kirbyville
4. Homefield

I believe EC has a chance, even a good chance, but will have to play their best game thus far.
