gary-us-bonds Posted October 8, 2012 Report Posted October 8, 2012 Does Baytown Lee even have "Dixie" in their playlist any more?I don't seem to hear it.I think they quit playing it around about the time they quit being good.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWLUhRGNNDQLink provided for those that forgot how it goes.
mighymouse490 Posted October 8, 2012 Report Posted October 8, 2012 wasn't it some controversy about it?? i think it was when they played PAM if i'm not mistaken.

bh15 Posted October 8, 2012 Report Posted October 8, 2012 Just political correctness. I am sure someone got their feelings hurt and complained. I miss the drum and bugle corps too.Kinda like changing Battleground rd. to Independence Parkway, too violent sounding.
gary-us-bonds Posted October 8, 2012 Author Report Posted October 8, 2012 Never have understood how the cries and complaints of a small minority can trump any sort of feelings someone else may have about the situation.I grew up with Dixie. Reminds me of my Dad, who went to every Lee game from 1960 to the day he died in 1999, save for the year he was in Vietnam. I can still remember riding around my three wheeler in the backyard in Pelly, humming "dixie" and "are you from dixie?" to myself to entertain myself. Didn't even know the song had words to it. Didn't know the origin. It was just a school fight song.I actually remember my Dad telling me that the words to "are you from dixie?" were "we're going to state"The part that was allegedly "we're going to state" starts at :13 seconds in the below video.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6NvtA80uvoBaytown Lee has changed so much it hurts to look at. No Brig, the cheerleaders don't do a lot of the traditional stuff that they used to... I know it all goes back to the people that go there now just don't care. Still tough to swallow.

That sign is now down by the Washburn Tunnel where he was captured. ;) ;) ;)
