TradinUp BH Posted October 17, 2012 Report Posted October 17, 2012 UIL looking at some changes.http://www.uiltexas.org/files/policy/102012-LC-athletics-proposals.pdf
Bigdog Posted October 17, 2012 Report Posted October 17, 2012 big surprise. ::) they want everyone in the playoffs. Wouldn't be surprised if they give you a state championship for winning your district if this keeps up!
Guest Air Bisquit Posted October 17, 2012 Report Posted October 17, 2012 More money for the UIL and watered down playoff system, where winning district does not mean anything. ::) ::)
AggiesAreWe Posted October 17, 2012 Report Posted October 17, 2012 Hate the 4 teams advancing particularly in districts that have 6 teams or less. Heck, if this starts next season, then 4 of the 5 teams in 20-3A (Carthage, Center, Diboll, Huntington and Jasper) will advance to playoffs. That's ridiculous!!Also saw where they will be voting on limiting basketball and baseball to 2 tourneys (not 3) and 21 total games played before playoffs. Do not like that and not sure coaches will like that as well.

TradinUp BH Posted October 17, 2012 Author Report Posted October 17, 2012 One positive may be that atleast some of the coaches will keep their jobs by making the playoffs as 4th place team. Don't know if it will have any bearing on that or if that's usually at the 4a and 5a levels?

Make a 4th place finish several years straight with zero or 1 win in the playoffs each year at a school like Carthage or Abilene Wylie and i bet the coach is fired.
WOSgrad Posted October 17, 2012 Report Posted October 17, 2012 This proposal brought to you by the number 15.

dustoff03 Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 all the teams you mentioned are 3-a and in a 5 team district. the proposed rule change is for 4 of them to go to the playoffs starting next year.

They miss too much instruction time already. It seems that, for most sports, the UIL's proposed changes gave opportunities to make up the tournament with matches scheduled for times outside the school day. As a teacher, I HATE that spring sports pull so many kids out of class for so many days. I do agree with the sentiments expressed on this thread about 4 teams going to playoffs. It is ridiculous for 4 teams out of 5 or 6 teams to make the playoffs.
86hawk Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 Don't like it. It is already watered down. Why not keep it simple. 1st and 2nd in each district and the current classifications. I don't like the whole Div 1 and Div 2 for the small school/big school. If you are 3A, you are 3A. You end up with 10 (i know the number is not accurate) different state champs in football??? Keep it simple UIL.
