PNG Proud Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012
Nederland has it's own fairweather fans, everyone does. But, I have been to LOTS of MCM games, and I've never seen the PNG not full before the game started... that was a first for me.
Were you surprised? Not me. I've complained about the "mass exodus" for decades.I guess it's a status symbol for people to say that they sat in line for 5 hrs. for tickets, but won't stay at the game more than 2 hrs. I don't get it.
NDOMAKONG Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 I can understand a mass exodus, I'm saying I was surprised it wasn't packed when the game started and into the first quarter. That's a first for me, not seeing a standing room only crowd.
PN-G bamatex Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 Some posters will find anything they can to take shots at PN-G with. They will try and say our crowd isn't the biggest in the area, when they know it is and we have consistently produced the sheer volume of fans to prove it. They'll try and say we don't have as much pride as we used to or that our traditions aren't 'all that,' when our pride and tradition are what put our school on display in more prominent fashion than any other school in the state at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin just last year. They'll try and say our rivalry isn't as big as it once was, when in fact that rivalry is consistently ranked among the fiercest in the state by a number of statewide, sports-oriented organizations, Dave Campbell, Legacy Sports and this very site among them. I normally take such petty offenses for what they are - products of a deep, sub-conscious inferiority complex that develops when you are consistently out-numbered by PN-G fans on your own field every other year, when you realize you know Cherokee better than your own school's fight song, and when you realize that your own school has never and likely will never have the prominence or recognition that PN-G has enjoyed for quite some time - and choose not to indulge them, but rather just toss a few light-hearted jabs back and continue on the practice of 'smack talk' this board is so popular for. And so, on that note, it really doesn't surprise me when some fan of some other school again tries to knock PN-G with a picture taken late in the fourth quarter of a half-empty stadium nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand schools couldn't fill to begin with, and it, too, doesn't surprise me that other fans of whatever school try and join in with 'walk the walk' and 'they're only there when they're winning' and all these other attempts at insults that reflect their ever-flowing originality, abundant creativity, level of intelligence and general wit. But setting such pleasantries aside for the moment in the interests of fairness, if any real discussion (emphasis on the word 'real') on this subject is to take place, then we must consider all the facts, and so, I offer into the record this picture of Nederland's crowd, taken just before the game by a Nederland graduate and posted on Facebook:At least we filled our (larger) stands at some point.

If so then wow. >:(
jake94 Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 Not that it matters, but that was AT LEAST 30 minutes before the game started because both teams are still on the field warming up. I think people overreact to crowds, crowd sizes, leaving early, etc. Who cares? I will say this though the Indians never quit tonight and the fans should be proud of their effort.
NEDERLAND TX Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 Sorry Indians. But y'all might need to order another field. Cause we tore that turf up! Apologies! Not!

Right down to the last turnover, those boys out there on that field fought with everything they had, and you can't ask for more than that.

GoDogs27 Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 Some may not realize that a majority of the Nederland side was reserved seats. I for one was not there yet when that picture was taken... But I had reserved seats. So to post that picture to claim that Nederland didn't fill stands is quite ignorant.. The stands were filled by kickoff.. On both sides..
navydawg31 Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 lol at your pic bamakid all i have to say is nice try ::)

I got to my seat at 6:40 and the PNG band was walking around the track like they are doing in this photo. Plus, the teams are still on the field. When Nederland headed for the locker room there was still 25-30 minutes left before game time. Right after that they showed that video the student body and faculty made. That was pretty impressive! 8)
mytwocents-28 Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 difference between yall's side and nederland's side is Nederland doesn't claim to be the "greatest fan base in all of texas." Ned doesn't go around "tooting there own horn" with words like tradition and honor and such. Typical that when yall get caught with half empty stands you have to point the finger at the other side and say "well they aren't any better than us."Nice. 8)

lobo1982 Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 Both sides were packed. I left with three minutes left. The PNG side was packed until Nederland scored on the interception. Then it emptied real quick.I have no dog in this fight, But there are times that fans from all schools leave early like this during a loss.

prepballfan Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 Doubt our fans if you want but you know you will never add up I was at the semi-final game for Nederland back in the early 2000's and your fans wasnt close to what a PNG game would have been at the deepest playoff game you have played in since way back when. It so easy to pick when your team is up and ours is down. Tides do turn when its your turn to be down then we can talk. Our kids gave it all they had Its funny what I learned last night bout Nederland. I dont no if you will win past round 1 after your showing last night. 37-12 by a top ranked team Central scored 56 last week. I have seen Summer Creek and Dayton enjoy this now but if you dont get your ducks in a row you will never see round 2. I expected more from Nederland than what was there last night.
NDNation Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 Our side was packed...right before the game we did the Indian March...which they announced over the PA system that we would be doing at 7:20...so many of our fans were under the bleachers...cheering on our football team as they were escorted by the drum line and came out down field and up the track to the run thru. Now in the 4th quarter i started seeing fans leave on BOTH sides...and I would like to thank them...because as it is it took me 30 min to get home from all the traffic. I can imagine what it would have been like if all fans would have stayed till the end. Games over...NO CROW for Nederland. INDIANS STILL ROCK...We will be back on top one day. Move on...we got Vidor ahead of us...who I think has become alot tougher team than Nederland.

And in my opinion, Nederland has sort of played to the level of their competition each week. If they almost beat Angleton, they should have creamed LC-M or had a better showing against PNG. I believe when their backs are truly against the walls they'll show up and make it a close contest. We can't really validate anything until the 1st round rolls around. Until then they'll keep doing what they're doing. Go Dogs!
ram0524 Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 With about 2 minutes to go in the game, Nederland had more fans than PNG, and the stands are what 1/4 of the Home side
Gtj007 Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 That picture was at least 30 minuets before kickoff. Notice all of the general admission seats already filled. I bet if PNG didn't have 2A sized visitor stands, Nederland would have filled them whatever size there were!
ndn mom Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 These posts are getting ridiculous! Every fan base has people that leave early win or lose! I can tell you that the Nederland side as well as the PNG side had empty seats all night from kick off until the last second of the game....it happens.

That's two touchdowns plus kicked PATs for Vidor compared to the Nederland outcome. ???
PURPLE 4EVER Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 Let me see if I can find a picture of Bulldog Stadium at the end of the 3rd quarter the last time and the only time the Dayton Broncos played at Nederland and blasted the Bulldogs 63 to 0. There were far less fans in the stands then. Enjoy playing district competition. Your bidistrict pairing will beat any team in 20-4A (including yourself).
