MomSoftball
Why does it matter how bad you beat someone, are if they scored or not. Running the score up doesn’t make you a better team. What are you teaching the boy by doing that?
Guest Air Bisquit
If a team is throwing the ball with a big lead that is running up the score, but if a team is running the ball and still scoring, then the other team needs to learn how to tackle ;)

VNUPE
When you put backups on, you cannot expect them not to play well. Most of those kids will probably never play if the score is always close. I'm pretty sure they have parents on the stands that want to see them score, or do something they'll be proud of. Lets not put an unfair expectation on the backups. It's football.

Why not work harder to get better and prevent it from happening. Sure there are teams that are flat out better but things can still be done. Also why should the winning teams back ups be penalized and told not to score.I'm sure I'm on the minority side, everyone is going to say how damaging it is to the feelings to get the score ran up on. QueenPirate
The Pirates have been told one time to not score and that was in the Vidor/Central game last year. It was the Friday after the unexpected loss of Matt Thomas #28. Our score at the time was 28 and there was less than two minutes of play time left and Central had to kick the ball to us. Mathews told those boys, If you get the ball and make a run for it, whatever you do, do not score. Needless to say, the score ended with us having 28 points. bruno994
I agree 100% with you GCMProud. I would much rather have them punch it in instead of kneeling. I guess the running clock is the only mercy rule that exists in high school football, but is it a rule? Or an unwritten rule? And at what point do the refs see the need to keep the clock running?
