MIF04 Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 Good tourney. I look for LCM to win but that's only by a hair. I'm looking forward to seeing how Silsbee and WOS perform here. Good test for all.
KFDM COOP Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 IF the WOS Boys Basketball team wins in their Semi Final game Thursday they will not be in the Tourney Friday or Saturday.
jdawg03 Posted March 7, 2006 Author Report Posted March 7, 2006 hmmm...i have mixed feelings about all that
KFDM COOP Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 LOL...I know but if they make it to the State Championship Saturday all the Coaches want to go to Austin. Those don't come around often in Basketball..
jdawg03 Posted March 7, 2006 Author Report Posted March 7, 2006 maybe so...I see both sides of it, but Im sure Coach Mixon (Jasper Coach) wont be too happy......
RedBarn Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 Personally, I think if you commit to a tournament you should play. Look how Lumbereton pulled out of Nederland's Tournament and turned that into a no champion tournament.
Homer Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 If any team from any school makes it to state they should cancel school, activities, and everything else so everyone can go support the team. That is a once in a lifetime deal!!
kerusso Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 Agreed. The town should be supporting the kids in Austin.
Guest Orangeboy Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 Sounds to me like WOS is just a little scared to play the big boys, we are talking about a basketball game for crying out loud. Who cares?
KFDM COOP Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 I agree! For any Sport! State Appearances don't come around often!!
Homer Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 WO-S is not scared to play the big boys. They already beat Silsbee in the Orangefield Tournament and scrimmaged LCM. They are playing Livingston on Thursday in the tournament. Sounds to me the only way they will cancel any games is if the basketball team wins Thurs. Therefore if the basketball team loses they will not be cancelling any games. So if they win the only team they will not play this year will be Jasper. They play Silsbee in a regular game over Spring break as well as Barbers Hill. How about congratulate the school for the basketball team doing so well and understand that the parents and friends of these great athletes want to go and watch them in the STATE TOURNAMENT!! If they were scared to play someone wouldn't they just go ahead and drop out of the whole thing and take off to Austin for the game on Thursday. Once again, it seems the only way they will cancel any games is if the team is in the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME - give em a break!!!! How many teams can say that in the Golden Triangle? Only one!! Also Remember the fact that WO-S has about 4 or 5 varsity baseball players on the basketball team!! GO MUSTANGS!!!!!!
ESPN Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 This shouldn't even be discussed. I agree with Homer and some of the others. ANY School with a team in the State Championship Tournment would go support their kids..
jdawg03 Posted March 7, 2006 Author Report Posted March 7, 2006 i dont think so...i seriously doubt that if Jasper was in the state tourney they would cancel all their baseball games and leave all the other teams hanging
KFDM COOP Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 There going to play Thursday. The Jasper Coach said he understood.
jdawg03 Posted March 7, 2006 Author Report Posted March 7, 2006 Im sure he does...but I still doubt he would do the same thing given he were in that situation.....its a tough decision
Homer Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 It would be a little different if you were hosting a tournament.
jdawg03 Posted March 7, 2006 Author Report Posted March 7, 2006 yea they do...its their tournament....
kerusso Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 i dont think so...i seriously doubt that if Jasper was in the state tourney they would cancel all their baseball games and leave all the other teams hanging School board, Superintendent and AD all would have a say in what should be done. It probably isn't even a Head Coaches decision in a case like this.
retiredoldcoach Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 Part of the problem could be solved by having them play two of thier four games on Thursday. Then if thier team wins in basketball, onlt two teams will be short a game in the tounament and not three.
JohnnyT60 Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 My point of view would be from the players on the baseball team. Essentially what you are saying is that their season is unimportant. Instead of them getting prepared for a tough district schedule, their coaches want to go watch the basketball team. I know it's state, but it doesn't change the fact that they are putting the baseball team on the back burner.
jdawg03 Posted March 8, 2006 Author Report Posted March 8, 2006 My question is this... Lets say WO-S or any other school for that matter makes it to state in Volleyball this year. This will most certainly conflict with football games....So Do you cancel the football game?...isnt it the same thing or are some sports less important than others
