tcobb35
PNG Defense has been weak for the last 4 years. Do you think its because everyone only learns 1 position and the best athletes do not play both ways. You can't coach with a 5A mentality with 4A players. You cant expect to outscore everyone (except for this year) without playing defense. Here's a thought: Instead of switching out defensive coordinators every couple of years how about getting out of the 3 /4 defense. It works great when you have massive D-lineman at the 5A levels but unfortunately we do not have that. You cant put all of the blame on the players when you change nothing on defense. Wake up ! The Honeymoon period is over !!

In 2009, we had the best defense in the district and one of the best in the state. That defense held Lumberton to 6 points, Livingston, Nederland, Barbers Hill (the second time), and Crosby to 7 points, a very experienced and highly vaunted Vidor team to 13, a fast Texas City to 16 and a fast Ozen to 20, an explosive, lightening fast Central offense to 22 points, and eventual state finalist Brenham to 27. The following year, the defense started out rough, but got better as the season went on and was good enough to help our offense take us on the deepest playoff run since 1999. It's only been the last two years that the defense has really suffered, and based on the scores so far this year at sub-varsity levels, that may not be the case much longer (hopefully won't).
