Possibly. You can get to 100% with academic scholarships, etc...

The pro scouts provide potential draftees with multi-page questionnaires. The gist of which is focused on your financial commitment to your family and your educational commitment. They have a real good idea about your signability before draft day.

You got that right...If you are projected to go in top half of the draft, the scouts know 'everything" about you.

SummerCreekitis---It is also one reason you see kids go the JUCO route. You remain draft eligible each year. If you sign with a 4-year university, you must stay 3 years or be 21 to be draft eligible again.

It's the same way in football.  D1 schools have 11.5 scholarships to divide up amongst the whole team, which is usually 20-25 players.  JUCO schools have 25 scholarships so pretty much everyone gets a full ride.  NCAA also has the 20 hour rule, where you can only practice and play games for 20 hours a week.  In JUCO, baseball is your job and your whole life.

I think it's crap that baseball only gets that many scholarships, and I've never heard an explanation that makes that much sense.  Schools like Lamar benefit from taking local kids and just paying for their school while they live at home with their parents.  Kids whose familes can't afford paying for their kid to go off to college are really only left with 2 choices-Juco or play at a local school.

The best thing to tell kids is to STUDY and keep their grades up.  All schools offer academic scholarships that can be combined with athletic to pay for all of their school.

Congrats to him and his family.  A great deal of hard work and determination by all these young men that sign these scholarships.

Yeah the only way to get a full ride is to get academic scholarships and grants on top of your baseball scholarship. I think pitchers are more than likely to get the highest % but I havent heard of many over 50%.

I was looked up lantrip on the perfect game site, was kind of shocked he is only 86-88?
[/quote]

That is low end in my opinion. He sits 89-90. He also has another year to develop.
