Johnson is just a natural shooter. His cousin is former Central player Ed Garriet so you can see why shooting the ball comes natural. Expect big things from them 2 this year. They have a lot to prove.
Ok. That's Dubie's little cousin. Interesting. I knew there was something about this kid.
Honest Abe Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012
i was expecting a better game.Yeah Zach English was not very assertive.....Nederland had oppurtunities to score off of breaking HJ's press but didn't. Nederland was in bonus for most of the 1st half, (time to get aggressive) take it to the rack but didn't settled for 3s in which they didn't make many. .I know ned is missing a few football players, but they re not starters i know its only one game ive seenof Nederland this year but NED is not worthy of a state ranking IMO.Central and Ozen will more than likely be the front runners this year.Great Job HJ.
Good points. Z. English needs to be more aggressive and shoot more than 6 times for the entire game. Not going to win any big games when one of Ur team leaders passes up shots and doesn't take it to the hole. Additionally, all of those 3s seemed to discourage Big Ned as they didn't respond like they normally do. There was no sense of urgency. Ned's 'Big 3' were all in double figures, and I think Landry had 6 off the bench, but the other Ned players did not contribute offensively. Ned needs to increase their intensity in big games like this one or they will be home early come playoff time.

We lost to HJ by 25+ last year, yet we still finished as co-champs with Central AND we won 29 games. I have confidence that Coach E. will use this as a learning experience and will find ways to motivate them for future big games. Additionally, give credit to HJ for making 9 3s early. They just wanted it more, IMO. They have young players wanting to prove something while Ned doesn't seem to have that same drive like they had last year. The most positive note I want to make for Ned is that we handled HJ's press much better than we did last year, but as you mentioned, Ned has to take advantage of that and attack the basket after breaking the press and not simply set up the 1/2 court offense. I didn't see the game last year, but I'm guessing that KW Park was very aggressive last year when they broke the press in the playoffs when they gave Yates such a good game. Ned's got work to do!
BLUEDOVE3 Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 I agree, I didn't see any intensity with Nederland players last night other than during the introduction for players.
cooligan Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 How about Ned playing a little D and banging the boards more? I don't buy the 2nd game of the season stuff. These BB specialists have done nothing but play BB for the last three years straight, around the clock, with no other interruptions. That is one reason they caught Central and Ozen looking early in district last year. This year all of Ozen and Central's players are already on the court priming for district. Ned will be competitive in district, but their ball handlers are going to have a lot of trouble with the guards from Ozen and Central. Absolutely no aggression last night and young English needs to listen to dad more and start shooting.
cooligan Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 Who you kidding BD3 --- even the intro was weak ;D

He is more than able to put up 16 or more points a night... look at the kid for HJ last night #12.. he missed his first 3 shots and 2 were three pointers but he didnt lose his confidence he kept shooting and knocked down his next 4 shots.... 3 of them from 3 pt land. 5GallonBucket Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 I know coach E will fix all the kinks by District time, he's a great coach and has done a great job everywhere he's been. IMO he is the best coach in that district hands down. BUT....i know what central has and I know what ozen has. Ned will have to shoot lights out every game against ozen and Central..Sorry Ned fans....im an outsider looking in...so i favor neither side. Your run at top will more than likely end this year and for the next several years. Coach E will always do a good job and keep Ned in contention.Coach E is great at puttin his players in the right spot, but sometimes your players just can't react quick enough......ups and downs of players abilities as a whole team...is down this year for NED.Word of advice....Don't press either team, make them play half court otherwise you may get ran out the building.

BLUEDOVE3 Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 Central and Ozen are young. Will make a lot of mistakes against a veteran team like Nederland. Look what happened to Central against Silsbee. Nederland will make the playoffs and get better as the season progress.
