But it will also take time and discipline from the players... I still believe though if they would at least put in some new turf, might give the kids something to look forward to... That turf is ridiculous. Be glad when they announce who it is for sure.... That's suppose to be public knowledge anyway who applied.

Only the years Liberty had Reggie White and Tony Bua, would I not have thought HD could beat the way bigger 3A Panthers. Every team HD lost to in playoffs would have killed Liberty. Alto, Groveton and the others are always ranked in top 10 or real high. HD's tradition of football excellence with over 530 victories, 7th best in state for 1A and 32 playoff apperances and a State Champioship. Liberty is the 3rd best football program in the county. Going outside their own is crazy, they need someone that cares past being a head coach and a pay check. I also heard another X-Grad from 1994 named Jennings applied too. This guy worked for Mike Leach at Texas Tech and has been a college and high school coordinator at several places. Who else are they getting that has that kind of football experience. Didnt Douglas play professionally after his U of H years?? These guys are obviously good coaches or wouldnt have the track records they have if they were not. Amazing Liberty!! REALISTIC93
Yes, there a lot of good coaches out there that Liberty could have chosen. Foreman, Douglas, Speights are three guys I would have considered. All three have coordinator experience and have a great repor with kids. Foreman has been in the running for a while, just maybe Hardin Jefferson will give him his shot. I have watched him first hand and his kids respond to him. Speights, I heard was in the running at Anahuac and got passed over by this hometown. A great athlete and heck of a coach I hear. Think he was in Houston at Jersey Village as the DC and head boys track coach and is now in Fort Worth, North Crowley as the DC as well. Anyone know where Douglas is these days, last I heard was Ozen. I can remember the days when he played at U of H ...Didn't he commit to Florida first? Anyways, whoever Liberty hires ...Good Luck .... Octfeb
"the supe wants to present a lone recommendation to trustees at the 2/19 regualr meeting. Dr. Abshier interviewing their top finalist to be sure if they offer the job the selection will accept. You may be aware that when Hardin hired Walter Fortune it was embarassing when their first two choices turned them down becuae of the pay offer. LHS doesn't want that to happen so they are confirming and will take choice known to board on Feb. 19. Superintendent is out of town and has not made a final choice but really knows who he wants." Anyone know where Douglas is these days, last I heard was Ozen. I can remember the days when he played at U of H ...Didn't he commit to Florida first? Anyways, whoever Liberty hires ...Good Luck ....
I agree, meet him before. Seems like a good coach (Speights), and heard that from other folks. You seem to be convinced. Don't know Foreman. Seems like all these guys would of at least got an interview. Douglas is at Ozen, that's last I heard. My brother in law felt the same way about Douglas and Jennings as coaches. Just a shame these guys don't get a look when you know they have been considered at other school a little higher up on the food chain than Liberty. Liberty has been in the playoffs more than HD in the last 22 year despite HD and their ridiculous scheduling. [glow=red,2,300]Liberty would STOMP A MUDHOLE in HD any time in any year.[/glow] They have not played bacause it does not make since for an above average 3A team to play 1A teams. I am aware of HD's long tradition of making the playoffs and getting beat in the 1st round as well as their State Championship 34 years ago but to say that Liberty is scared or fearful in anyway of the outcome of an HD encounter is outrageous.
Just want to chime in really quick on this. The statement about Liberty stomping HD anytime, any year is completely inaccurate. I would agree that more times than not, Liberty fields a better team head to head strictly based off enrollment numbers. I personally had a conversation with an Ex-Panther head coach and asked him why he never scheduled the Bobcats. He asked me "why would we schedule HD?" "We'd have everything to lose and nothing to gain!" Basically he went on to say that if Liberty beat HD's, big deal, they're supposed to be one or two classifications larger. But if they lose to 1A HD, then that looks bad. That hurts the team and their psyche and it could be irrepairable come district playoff time. I know for a fact that HD tried to schedule Liberty at least a half dozen times over the last 20 years and Liberty always declined. Not saying that Liberty was "scared", but they knew it would be a highly competitive game that they may not win. Just wanted to throw my .02 cents in on that one. And as far as history goes, Liberty does not have the same history that HD has. Never has, never will. Too many politics and outside distractions to deal with. Liberty has athletes no doubt, just never put it all together. Dayton, until the mid-90's was the punching bag of SETX. Now their program is top in the county. When HD and Liberty were the same classifications of schools, HD lead the overall series 15-4. When Liberty moved up classes and out of district, they reeled off six wins in a row to leave the all-time series at 15-10-2 HD.

In the year range where most of the population has been alive, Liberty would stomp HD anytime and any year. Liberty is way beyond HD and has no business being in discussion with HD. Despite the fact that Liberty has much greater numbers, Liberty has also been a winning team in 3A for recent memory. Liberty's 3A schedule has been much tougher than anything HD ever though about playing and Liberty has been a winner. It is not a knock on HD that Liberty is at a different level. It is expected of Liberty.
